Communication and Data Line Installation

Your home office, computer network, and telephone wiring all require an expert’s touch to run smoothly and optimally.

When it comes to communication and data cables, expert installation is vital. It’s not often that we think about the cabling running through our home or business. But most phones, computers, security cameras, and servers require low-voltage or structured cabling to function. The friendly folks at Thomas Edison specialize in installing and hard-wiring cabling that ensures smooth operation in your home and business.

Types of Communication and Data Cables

There are three main types of communication and data cables: fiber optic, coaxial, and twisted pair. The skilled electricians at Thomas Edison can help determine the proper communication and data lines to keep your business, home office, and computer network running as efficiently and quickly as possible.

Fiber Optic Cables

Fiber optic cables can be used when copper cables aren’t suitable. For example, you might need a very high speed, high bandwidth, or to eliminate interference from metal-based cabling. Often, a mid-range switch can be accomplished without replacing your copper cables. Instead, your electrician will add fiber optic channels alongside your current data cable network.

Coaxial Cables

Coaxial cables carry signals at higher frequencies than twisted pair cables. They consist of an insulator with a central core conductor inside. Coaxial cables are standard in homes because they are typically used for television communication data transmission and telephone networks.

Twisted Pair Cables

In twisted pair cables, two copper cables are intertwined inside the cable. One cable is a ground reference, while the other is the signal carrier. A twisted pair can protect communication signals up to approximately 300 feet. Generally, twisted pair cables are used in computer networks and telecommunications.
