Electrical Service in Camden's Neighborhoods

Camden's homes date to a median year of 1955, and knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes, 60-amp services and ungrounded outlets still turn up across the city's neighborhoods. With a population of 71,761, Camden is the largest place we serve in the county, and our crews see the full range of that older housing stock every week.

PSE&G and Atlantic City Electric both hold territory in Camden County, and we confirm which one bills your address before scheduling any service upgrade or meter move, so the paperwork goes to the right place the first time.

Camden sits along the Delaware River corridor, where nor'easters and tropical storm remnants bring a real flooding risk. A panel or outlet that has taken on water needs a full electrical safety inspection, not just a dry-off, and a standby generator is worth planning before the next storm rather than during it.

Common Electrical Projects in Camden Homes

A 1955 Camden home has usually seen at least one round of updates, but knob-and-tube wiring still hides in ceilings and walls that were never opened. We trace it, replace the live sections, and leave a written record of what's still there.

Fuse boxes and 60-amp panels are common finds too, and neither leaves room for central air, a range and everything else a household runs at once. A 200-amp panel upgrade solves that in one visit, sized for the house as it's actually used.

Two-prong outlets get grounded or fitted with GFCI protection. For newer work, we install Level 2 EV chargers on their own circuit and add dedicated circuits for window units, workshops or a finished basement.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Camden

Camden's construction office issues electrical permits under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. We file under our own license, schedule the rough-in and final inspections, and meet the sub-code official on site, so you get a closed, documented permit without having to track it down yourself.

PSE&G is the primary utility across most of Camden, with Atlantic City Electric serving other pockets of the county. We confirm which one bills your address, then handle the disconnect and reconnect for any service upgrade or meter move. Downed lines are the utility's repair. Everything from the meter into the house, any hour, is ours.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Camden Electrical FAQs

Which utility serves my address in Camden, PSE&G or Atlantic City Electric?

Either is possible. PSE&G is the primary utility across most of the city, but Atlantic City Electric holds territory elsewhere in the county. Your bill will tell you which one, and we confirm it on the first call so any service upgrade or meter work gets scheduled with the right company.

My Camden home was built in the 1950s. What should I have checked?

The panel and the wiring behind the walls. Camden's homes date to a median year of 1955, and knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes and 60-amp services are still common. An electrical safety inspection gives you a written, ranked list, so you can fix what's urgent first and plan the rest.

Does living near the Delaware River affect my home's electrical system?

It can. Camden's location along the river corridor means nor'easters and tropical storm remnants bring real flooding risk. Any panel, outlet or junction box that has taken on water should be inspected before anyone resets a breaker, since corrosion inside can cause failures well after everything looks dry again.

Who shows up when I call Thomas Edison Electric in Camden?

One of our own electricians, never a subcontractor. They're direct employees who train weekly and dispatch from their own homes in fully stocked TEE vans, so they usually arrive ready to finish the job that day. You'll get a written quote before anything starts, and if we're late, we waive the dispatch fee.
