Burlington County's electric service is split four ways. PSE&G is the primary provider and serves Mount Holly and much of the county. Atlantic City Electric covers other areas, and Jersey Central Power & Light serves some too. Pemberton Borough runs its own utility. That is four different sets of rules for service upgrades, meter changes and disconnects. We ask who bills you on the first call, so the paperwork goes to the right place.
Weather matters here. The county gets hit from both directions: nor'easters and the remnants of tropical storms. The Rancocas Creek watershed has a long history of storm flooding. Near the creek, we take post-flood checks seriously. A panel or outlet that took water needs a careful check, not just a quick dry-off. For everyone, that means backup generators, whole-home surge protection and transfer switches. They are worth discussing before the next storm, not after.
The rest of what we do in Burlington County is everyday work done right. That includes 24-hour emergency repairs, panel replacements, dedicated circuits, EV chargers, lighting, ceiling fans and safety inspections. We also serve the neighbors: Camden and Mercer Counties in New Jersey, and Bucks and Philadelphia Counties in PA. The same local crews cover them, dispatching from home in the region.
Burlington County's median home dates to 1977. The typical house we see here is late-seventies construction that has never had its wiring seriously updated. What that usually means:
Aluminum branch wiring was still in use in that period. The connections loosen with heating and cooling cycles. A common early sign is a warm outlet cover or a flickering light. The fix uses rated connectors at every termination, or a rewire of the runs.
A 100 amp panel was the norm. It doesn't leave room for a heat pump, a Level 2 EV charger and an electric range at once. Upgrading to 200 amp service is a common project, coordinated with PSE&G or your utility. Circuit breaker repair and upgrades covers what's involved.
We ground two-prong ungrounded outlets or add GFCI protection. Home EV charger installation is an increasingly common request. Because of the storm exposure, we recommend generator installation with a transfer switch. Talk to us before hurricane season, not during it.
New Jersey handles electrical permits differently from PA. Under the state Uniform Construction Code, the permit goes through your town's construction office. Each town in Burlington County has its own office and its own sub-code officer. Moorestown's paperwork is not Willingboro's. That is routine for us. Our team files the permit under our New Jersey license and schedules the rough and final inspections. We are on site when the inspector arrives. You get the signed-off approval at the end.
Utility coordination follows the same idea. PSE&G serves the county seat and the largest share of the county. Atlantic City Electric and JCP&L each serve their own areas, and Pemberton Borough runs its own system. A service upgrade or meter change means arranging things with the right utility. We do that as part of the job. The line to the meter is theirs. The meter to your last light switch is ours, 365 days a year.
