Columbia County's electric service is about as simple as it gets. PPL Electric Utilities is the primary provider across the county, and Catawissa Borough runs its own municipal electric system. That's it. For most homeowners a service upgrade or meter relocation means working through PPL's process, and for Catawissa residents it means the borough's. We handle the application and the disconnect scheduling in both cases. The utility owns everything up to and including the meter. Everything after it is on us.
The housing here tells us what to expect. With a median build year of 1970, the typical Columbia County home has been running on its original electrical system for decades. That era had specific habits: aluminum branch wiring, 100 amp panels, two-prong outlets with no ground. None of these is a crisis on its own. All of them are worth a look, and we'll tell you honestly which ones matter in your house.
Coverage extends past the county line. We also serve Montour, Northumberland, Luzerne, Lycoming, Schuylkill and Sullivan Counties. The crews who serve them are the same local ones who serve Columbia. For planned work we group jobs into one visit when we can. A panel upgrade, a couple of dedicated circuits and a safety inspection on the same day means one appointment, one permit trip and one bill.
