“ Joan was very knowledgable and efficient at doing his job. He answered any questions that we had and stayed later in the day until the task was completed.

The Thomas Edison difference

Mount Holly Electricians for the County Seat

As the seat of Burlington County, Mount Holly has some of the oldest housing stock we work in, and a Mount Holly electrician from Thomas Edison Electric knows that going in. ZIP 08060 borders Lumberton and Hainesport, both a short trip away, and Rancocas and Vincentown sit close by too. Our crews cover the whole cluster.

Every electrician we send is a direct employee, not a subcontractor, dispatching from home in a fully stocked TEE van. We hold New Jersey license 34EB01791600, carry full insurance, and are a family-owned, multigenerational company with over 37,000 jobs completed since 2021. The quote is in writing before anyone picks up a tool, and a late arrival means we waive the dispatch fee.

Wiring in a 1956 Mount Holly Home

Mount Holly's median home dates to 1956, older than most of the townships around it. Knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes instead of breaker panels, 60-amp services and ungrounded outlets are all still common finds here. None of it means the house is unsafe today, but all of it limits what the house can carry.

A fuse box in particular tends to surprise homeowners. It was standard decades ago, but it cannot support a modern kitchen, central air and a car charger at the same time, and fuses get swapped for the wrong amperage more often than panels do. We replace fuse boxes with modern breaker panels sized for how the home is actually used now.

As the county seat, Mount Holly also sits close to the Rancocas Creek watershed, which has a history of storm flooding. Nor'easters and tropical remnants both pass through this part of Burlington County, so a panel or crawlspace that has taken water before is worth a second look.

Common Electrical Projects in Mount Holly Homes

Mount Holly's older housing stock means we see wiring types that have mostly disappeared from newer townships nearby. Knob-and-tube remnants in an attic or basement, a fuse box instead of breakers, and ungrounded two-prong outlets all show up regularly.

  • Fuse box to breaker panel conversions, often jumping from 60 amps to 200

  • Grounding ungrounded outlets or adding GFCI protection

  • Full or partial rewires where knob-and-tube remains active

  • Amperage upgrades to support central air or an EV charger

We treat a fuse box upgrade the same way we treat a full panel replacement: everything in writing first, permit pulled, inspection scheduled, and the old equipment removed, not left live behind a new cover plate.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Mount Holly

A fuse box conversion in Mount Holly touches two different systems, and we manage both so you do not have to juggle them. The township, as the Burlington County seat, has its own municipal construction office that signs off on the permit under New Jersey's Uniform Construction Code. We file under our license and cover the inspection ourselves.

PSE&G, meanwhile, owns the wires up to your meter and is who you call if a whole street loses power. Swapping a fuse box for a breaker panel usually means PSE&G has to briefly disconnect and reconnect service, and we set that up directly with them. Anything past the meter, at any hour, is our repair, not theirs.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Mount Holly Electrical FAQs

Do you send electricians to Mount Holly overnight?

Yes, 24/7, 365 days a year, including holidays. Our electricians are local to the Mount Holly area and dispatch from their own homes in stocked vans rather than driving in from elsewhere. Call 800-380-6800 and a licensed electrician takes it from there.

My Mount Holly house still has a fuse box. Is that a problem?

Not an emergency by itself, but it is worth addressing. Fuse boxes from the 1950s were not sized for today's appliance load, and the wrong-size fuse can mask an overload instead of protecting against it. We can convert a fuse box to a modern breaker panel, usually in a single visit with an inspection.

What is knob-and-tube wiring, and do I have it?

It is an early wiring method using ceramic knobs and tubes to route individual wires, common in homes built before the 1950s. Remnants still turn up in Mount Holly attics and basements even where later work replaced most of it. We identify what is still active and what it would take to remove or isolate safely.

Who handles a power outage, you or PSE&G?

PSE&G restores outages caused by storms or line damage. If your neighbors have power and you do not, or a fuse keeps blowing the moment you reset it, that points to something inside your home, and that is exactly what we handle, any hour of the day.
