Electrical Service Built Around a 1974 Community

Browns Mills is one of the larger communities we serve in Burlington County, and its homes date to a median year of 1974. That means aluminum branch wiring, 100-amp panels, two-prong outlets and, on occasion, a recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel.

Aluminum wiring from this era loosens at its connections over time, showing up as a warm outlet cover or a flickering light. We remake those connections with rated connectors, and check the panel brand on every visit since a recalled panel is a replacement, not a repair.

PSE&G is the utility serving Browns Mills, and any service upgrade gets scheduled with them as part of the job. We also handle newer requests like EV chargers and standby generators, things a 1974 panel usually needs help to support.

Common Electrical Projects in Browns Mills Homes

Start with the panel. A 1974 Browns Mills home usually runs on 100 amps, and if the label reads Federal Pacific or Zinsco, that's a replacement before anything else. A 200-amp panel upgrade retires the recalled unit and adds capacity in the same visit.

Aluminum branch wiring from this era loosens at its connections. Warm cover plates and flickering lights are the classic signs, and we remake those joints with the right connectors.

Two-prong outlets get grounded or fitted with GFCI protection. For additions a 1974 house never planned on, a Level 2 EV charger gets its own circuit, and a standby generator covers the next outage. We're a certified Generac dealer for both.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Browns Mills

Electrical permits in Browns Mills go through the local municipal construction office under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. We file under our own license, schedule the rough-in and final inspections, and are on site when the sub-code official arrives, so you get a closed, documented permit without chasing it yourself.

PSE&G serves Browns Mills. A panel upgrade, new service or meter move needs a scheduled disconnect and reconnect on their end, and we arrange that as part of the job. If a storm takes down the lines themselves, that repair belongs to PSE&G. Everything from the meter into your home, any hour of the year, is ours.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Browns Mills Electrical FAQs

How do I know if my Browns Mills home has aluminum wiring?

Check the cable jacket in the attic or basement for the letters AL or ALUMINUM, or look at when the house was built. Browns Mills homes date to a median year of 1974, right in the window when aluminum branch wiring was standard. A licensed electrician can confirm it in one visit and give you a written plan for the fix.

The power is out on my street in Browns Mills. Do I call you or PSE&G?

Look at your neighbors first. If the whole block is dark, that's a PSE&G outage, and PSE&G handles the repair. If your house alone lost power, or only part of it did, the problem is likely on your side of the meter, and that's ours to fix, any hour.

Can a 1974 Browns Mills panel support an EV charger and a generator?

Not always without an upgrade. A 100-amp panel from that era is often already close to full once central air and a range are accounted for. We check the actual load, and if there's no room, a 200-amp panel upgrade makes space for both, priced in one written quote.

Who actually shows up for a Browns Mills service call?

One of our own electricians, never a subcontractor. They're background-checked, trained weekly and dispatch from their own home in a fully stocked TEE van, so they usually have what the job needs on the first visit. You'll always get a written quote before any work starts.
