Our vans were in Southampton in April 2026 for a run of everyday jobs. GFCI outlets. A kitchen ceiling light. An occupancy-sensor timer switch. LED strip lighting in a basement. A Siemens subpanel with a whole-home surge protector. That list is a fair picture of what Southampton homes ask for. Small upgrades that make a house safer and easier to live in. The median home here dates to 1968. Homes from that era often carry aluminum branch wiring, 100-amp panels and two-prong outlets. Recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels turn up often. If your Southampton house fits that description, an electrical safety inspection is a good first step.
PECO Energy Company is the utility here. The remnants of Hurricane Ida flooded parts of Bucks County in September 2021 and knocked out power widely. That night is why surge protection and standby generators come up so often here and in Rushland and Jamison.
A 1968 Southampton house usually needs three things checked. First, the panel. A 100-amp panel from that year usually sits full. If the brand is Federal Pacific or Zinsco, it is a hazard on its own. A 200-amp upgrade fixes both problems at once, with PECO handling the meter side.
Second, the wiring. Aluminum branch circuits need every connection re-terminated with rated connectors. Two-prong outlets get a ground or a GFCI.
Third, the additions. A Level 2 EV charger on its own circuit. A subpanel for a finished basement, like the Siemens unit we installed here in April 2026. Whole-home surge protection at the panel, which is inexpensive insurance for everything with a circuit board in it.
Southampton spans two townships, Upper and Lower Southampton. Each issues its own electrical permits under the state Uniform Construction Code. Both rely on a third-party inspection agency, as most townships in the state do. We know which one covers your street. We file the permit, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector, and your written quote includes the cost.
Your utility is PECO Energy Company. A service upgrade or a meter move needs a PECO disconnect and reconnect, and we schedule it. Downed lines are PECO's repair. Everything from the meter into the house, including that new surge protector, is our work at any hour.
