Most of Mercer County gets its electricity from PSE&G, with Jersey Central Power & Light serving some areas. For you, the difference shows up when we upgrade a service or replace a meter pan. The utility has to disconnect and reconnect, and we schedule that with PSE&G or JCP&L on your behalf. Outages and downed wires are theirs. Anything from the meter into the house, the panel, the circuits, the outlets, is ours to fix.
The typical Mercer County home dates to around 1969. Houses from that period often still carry aluminum branch-circuit wiring and a 100-amp panel that is out of room. Two-prong outlets with no ground are common too. None of that is a crisis by itself. But it is exactly what causes warm switch plates, tripped breakers and failed home inspections. We correct it to current New Jersey code.
One more thing about this county. Trenton and the Delaware River floodplain have a history of flooding from tropical storms and nor'easters. Water and electrical panels do not mix. If your basement has taken on water, do not reset breakers and hope. Call us for a post-flood inspection. We also serve Bucks County across the river and neighboring Burlington County.
A house from around 1969 in Hopewell, Pennington or Hightstown carries wiring for a different life. These are the projects we handle most often.
Aluminum wiring remediation. Late-1960s builders used aluminum for branch circuits. The connections loosen and heat up over time. We inspect, repair with approved connectors, or rewire where it makes sense.
Panel upgrades from 100 amps. A 200-amp panel gives you room for central air, a heat pump and a car charger without daily breaker trips.
Grounding two-prong outlets so your electronics stay protected and your home inspection passes.
EV charger installation. We install Level 2 home chargers on dedicated circuits. A Mercer County home on 100-amp service often needs a panel upgrade to support one.
Standby generators and surge protection. In a county with a flood history, a backup generator with an automatic transfer switch earns its keep.
New Jersey handles electrical permits differently from Pennsylvania. Under the state's Uniform Construction Code, the municipal construction office in each town issues permits. Each municipality sets its own sub-code official and process. A panel change in Trenton and one in Hopewell go through two different offices. We file the paperwork and schedule the inspection, so the job closes out fully documented for the day you sell.
Your utility is a separate relationship. PSE&G serves most Mercer County addresses, and JCP&L serves others. Either way, service upgrades and meter work require a coordinated disconnect and reconnect that we arrange. If the whole block is dark, call the utility. If it is just your house, or just one floor, or a panel that hums or smells hot, call us. We answer 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
