The Thomas Edison difference

Trenton Electricians for the Mercer County Seat

As the seat of Mercer County, Trenton is the biggest city our team covers in the area, and a Trenton electrician from Thomas Edison Electric works ZIP codes across the whole city, from 08608 to 08618 and beyond. Pennington, Titusville and Princeton all sit within a short reach of our Trenton crews too.

Every electrician we send is a direct employee, never a subcontractor, dispatching from home in a fully stocked TEE van. We hold New Jersey license 34EB01791600, carry full insurance, and have completed over 37,000 jobs since 2021 as a family-owned, multigenerational company. The price is written down before work starts, and a late arrival means we waive the dispatch fee.

Citywide coverage

Trenton electricians dispatch from home to reach every ZIP code, not just the busiest ones.

A City's Worth of Wiring in Trenton

Trenton's median home dates to 1959, and with 91,204 residents spread across dozens of ZIP codes, our crews see a wide range of that era's wiring in a single week. Knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes instead of breaker panels, 60-amp services and ungrounded outlets are all still common finds across the city.

A fuse box is the one that trips people up most. It handled a 1950s household fine, but it runs out of room fast once central air, a microwave and a car charger all want power at once, and the wrong-size fuse can hide an overload instead of stopping one. We size the replacement panel to how the home is used now.

Trenton and the Delaware River floodplain have a real history of flooding from tropical storm remnants and heavy nor'easters. If your basement has ever taken on water, an electrical panel or outlets down there deserve a proper inspection, not just a dry-out and a reset.

Common Electrical Projects in Trenton Homes

Trenton's housing stock runs older than many of the townships around it, so fuse box conversions and knob-and-tube checks make up a real share of our work here. We swap fuse panels for modern breakers, often moving from 60 amps up to 200, and correct electrical code violations found during a sale or refinance inspection.

Because the city sits near the Delaware River floodplain, post-flood inspections are a regular call too, checking any panel or outlet that has taken water for corrosion before it fails months later. We also install backup generators with automatic transfer switches for households that want to be ready before the next storm rather than after it.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Trenton

In a city the size of Trenton, we deal with the same two parties on almost every job. The municipal construction office reviews and signs off on every electrical permit under New Jersey's statewide Uniform Construction Code, no matter which ZIP code the address falls in, and we file under our own license with the inspection covered.

PSE&G is the second party, and a fuse box conversion or new service needs them to briefly disconnect and reconnect at the meter, which we schedule directly. If a whole block goes dark from storm damage, that call belongs to PSE&G. If it is one house, or a breaker that will not hold, that call is ours, any hour.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Trenton Electrical FAQs

Do you send electricians throughout Trenton, not just downtown?

Yes. Our electricians dispatch from home across the city and its surrounding ZIP codes, so a call from any part of Trenton reaches a local crew. Call 800-380-6800 and we will confirm timing for your address.

My basement flooded during a storm. Is my panel still safe?

Do not assume so. Trenton and the Delaware River floodplain have flooded before, and a panel or outlets that sat in water can corrode and fail later even if they seem to work now. Shut off power at the main if you safely can, then call us for an inspection before resetting anything.

My house still has a fuse box. Should I replace it?

Most of the time, yes. A fuse box from the 1950s was not sized for today's appliance load, and using the wrong fuse size can mask an overload rather than prevent one. We convert fuse boxes to modern panels, permit and inspection included.

Who handles a Trenton power outage, you or PSE&G?

PSE&G restores outages caused by storms or line damage. If your block is dark and the neighbors are too, that call goes to PSE&G. If your home alone loses power, or a breaker will not hold once the outage clears, that is our repair, any hour of the day.
