Electrical Service Across Franconia

The typical Franconia home dates to 1987. Copper wiring is the norm by this era, which is good news structurally. But the 100 to 150-amp panels installed at the time often run out of room once modern loads arrive. Heat pumps, hot tubs and EV chargers are the usual culprits.

We size the fix to the actual load rather than guessing. Sometimes a 200-amp panel upgrade is the answer. Other times the existing panel has enough room for one more dedicated circuit, and a full upgrade isn't necessary yet. We tell you which situation you're in, in writing, before recommending either one.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida caused catastrophic flash flooding and widespread power outages across Montgomery County in September 2021. A newer home is less prone to flood damage than an older one. A standby generator is still worth considering here, especially with an electric heat pump that needs power to keep the house warm.

Common Electrical Projects in Franconia Homes

A 1987 Franconia home usually has sound copper wiring, so the story here is capacity, not safety. A 100 or 150-amp panel that felt generous in the 1980s runs thin once a household adds central air, an electric range and a car that plugs in overnight.

  • Panel capacity assessment. We calculate actual household load before recommending anything, then price a 200-amp upgrade if it's truly needed.

  • Heat pump and hot tub circuits. Sized and wired as dedicated circuits, not shared with anything else.

  • EV charger installation. A Level 2 charger on its own line, sized for your vehicle and your panel.

  • Whole-home surge protection, worth adding as more sensitive electronics run through the panel.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Franconia

Franconia Township issues electrical permits under Pennsylvania's statewide Uniform Construction Code. Like most municipalities here, it typically relies on a third-party inspection agency for plan review and inspections, not its own building department. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and walk it through to approval, already priced into your written quote.

PECO Energy Company is the electric utility in Franconia. A panel upgrade, new service or EV charger installation often needs a scheduled disconnect and reconnect at the meter, which we coordinate with PECO directly. Downed lines and neighborhood outages are PECO's to repair. From the meter socket inward, panel, circuits, outlets, that's our work, any hour you need it.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Franconia Electrical FAQs

How much panel capacity does a Franconia home need for an EV charger and a heat pump?

It depends on what else is already on the panel, which is why we calculate your actual load rather than assume. Many 1980s Franconia homes on 100 or 150 amps can add one of the two without an upgrade, but both together often call for 200 amps. We give you the real number in writing.

Is there a 24-hour electrician serving Franconia?

Yes. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included, and the electrician who responds lives locally and dispatches from home in a stocked TEE van. Call 800-380-6800 whenever the problem shows up, and expect a written price before any repair begins.

Do I need a permit to add an EV charger circuit in Franconia?

Yes, electrical work for a new circuit falls under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, and Franconia Township requires the permit and inspection like any other municipality here. We handle both as part of the job, so you don't have to track down the paperwork yourself.

What's the difference between a panel upgrade and a new dedicated circuit?

A dedicated circuit adds one properly sized line for a single appliance, like a hot tub or an EV charger, and works when your panel already has room. A panel upgrade replaces the whole box with more capacity, which we recommend only when the math shows the existing panel truly can't support what you're adding.
