Electrical Service in Norristown and Nearby

Norristown's housing is older than most of Montgomery County. The typical home here dates to 1957, and knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes, 60-amp services and ungrounded outlets are still common finds. We treat each one as routine, not a red flag.

Our electricians are directly employed, not subcontracted, and they dispatch from their own homes instead of a distant yard. The same crews cover Fairview Village, Plymouth Meeting and Blue Bell, and everywhere between. Call 610-270-9700 any hour, any day.

PECO Energy Company is the electric utility here. PECO restores the lines outside; what's behind your walls and inside your panel is our job. The remnants of Hurricane Ida brought flash flooding and widespread outages to Montgomery County in September 2021. If your basement flooded that month, an inspection is worth the peace of mind.

Common Electrical Projects in Norristown Homes

Norristown's older housing stock means the fuse box is often the first stop. A 1957 home may still run on 60 amps through fuses instead of breakers, which limits what the house can safely carry. A panel upgrade to 100 or 200 amps replaces both at once.

Knob-and-tube wiring shows up in ceilings and old additions. We trace it, isolate it and replace the sections that matter most, especially anywhere insulation now covers the old wire. Ungrounded outlets get GFCI protection where a full rewire isn't needed yet.

For the additions a 1957 house never had, we run dedicated circuits for a kitchen remodel or install a Level 2 EV charger once the panel has the capacity.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Norristown

As a borough and the county seat, Norristown issues its own electrical permits, working under the state Uniform Construction Code with a third-party inspection agency, the way most Pennsylvania municipalities do. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and walk the inspector through the finished work, all inside the quote you approved first.

PECO Energy Company serves Norristown, so a service upgrade, meter relocation or panel swap involves a scheduled disconnect and reconnect with PECO. We arrange both. A downed line or a neighborhood outage is PECO's repair. Everything from the meter into the house, any hour, is ours.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Norristown Electrical FAQs

Do you send electricians to Norristown at night?

Yes. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included, and our electricians dispatch from their own homes in the area, not a distant yard. Every van is fully stocked, so most repairs finish in one visit. Call 610-270-9700 whenever the problem starts.

My Norristown house still has fuses. Is that a problem?

Not automatically, but it's worth a look. A fuse box usually means 60-amp service, which struggles with central air, an electric range or a fast EV charger. We inspect the panel, explain what a 100 or 200-amp upgrade involves, and put the price in writing before anything changes.

Is knob-and-tube wiring in my walls dangerous?

Old knob-and-tube wiring that's untouched and uncovered can often keep working safely, but insulation packed around it, or a splice done without a junction box, raises the risk. An electrical safety inspection tells you exactly what's behind your walls and what, if anything, needs attention.

Who do I call when the power goes out in Norristown, you or PECO?

Check outside first. A whole-block outage is PECO's territory, and PECO handles the repair. If only your house went dark, or half of it, the problem is likely on your side of the meter, and that side is ours, any hour of the day or night.
