The Thomas Edison difference

Your Conshohocken Electricians

Need a Conshohocken electrician? Thomas Edison Electric's crews live and work across Montgomery County. Each one drives a fully stocked TEE van out from their own home, not a central shop. Conshohocken, ZIPs 19428 and 19429, is home to about 9,282 people, bordered by Plymouth Meeting, Bridgeport and Lafayette Hill, with Gladwyne a bit further along.

We're a family-owned, multigenerational company and an award-winning name in the trade, licensed in Pennsylvania under PA075449 and insured. Every electrician we send has passed a background check and trains on current code every week. Call 610-520-1300 any hour, any day. The price is written before work starts, and if we run late, we waive the dispatch fee.

Electrical Service Across Conshohocken

The typical Conshohocken home dates to 1964. Houses from that era commonly have aluminum wiring on the branch circuits, a 100-amp panel that's likely maxed out by now, and two-prong outlets with no ground path. Recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels are common finds too, especially in homes that haven't been updated since they were built.

We treat the panel as the starting point on almost every older Conshohocken call. If it's aluminum branch wiring, we remake the connections with approved connectors or rewire where that's the better long-term fix. If the panel itself is the problem, a 200-amp upgrade clears out the recalled equipment and adds the room a modern home needs.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida caused catastrophic flash flooding and widespread power outages across Montgomery County in September 2021. Conshohocken sits low enough in places that basement flooding is a real risk in a serious storm. If water ever reached your panel, don't just flip the breaker back on. Have it checked first.

Common Electrical Projects in Conshohocken Homes

A 1964 Conshohocken house was wired for a much lighter load than it carries now. Central air, a home office, an induction range, and often a car that plugs in overnight. The original 100-amp panel usually can't keep up.

Start with the panel. If the label reads Federal Pacific or Zinsco, replacement is the safer call over a repair. A 200-amp panel upgrade clears the recalled equipment and adds real capacity in one project.

Next, the wiring. Warm cover plates and flickering lights point to loose aluminum connections. We remake those joints with the right connectors, or pull new copper where that makes more sense.

Then there are the additions a 1964 house never planned for. A dedicated line for a Level 2 EV charger, or a standby generator with an automatic transfer switch for the next long outage.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Conshohocken

Conshohocken is its own borough, and it permits electrical work under Pennsylvania's statewide Uniform Construction Code. Like most Montgomery County municipalities, it typically relies on a third-party inspection agency for plan review and inspections rather than running its own building department. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and walk the inspector through the finished work. It's part of the written quote you already approved, not an extra line item.

PECO Energy Company is the electric utility in Conshohocken. A panel upgrade, new service or meter move needs a scheduled disconnect and reconnect, and we coordinate that with PECO directly. Downed lines and neighborhood outages are PECO's to repair. Everything from the meter socket inward, panel, circuits, outlets, is ours, any hour you need it.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Conshohocken Electrical FAQs

Is there an emergency electrician in Conshohocken at night?

Yes. We answer calls 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included. The electrician who responds is local, dispatching from home in a stocked TEE van rather than a distant shop. Call 610-520-1300 whenever the problem shows up, and expect a written price before any repair begins.

Can a 1964 Conshohocken panel handle an EV charger?

Sometimes, once we check the numbers. A Level 2 charger needs its own circuit, and a 100-amp panel from 1964 often doesn't have the room left. If yours is full or carries a recalled brand, we price a 200-amp upgrade and coordinate the meter side with PECO.

The power is out in my neighborhood. Do I call you or PECO?

Look outside first. If the whole street is dark, that's a PECO outage, and PECO handles the repair. If only your house lost power, or only some rooms did, the trouble is likely inside your own electrical system, and that's where we come in.

What should I have checked before buying an older Conshohocken home?

The panel brand and the branch wiring, at minimum. A Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel is worth replacing rather than repairing, and aluminum wiring needs every connection reviewed. Our electrical safety inspection covers both, with a written quote for anything we find.
