Electrical Service in and Around Phoenixville

Phoenixville's typical home dates to 1974, which usually means aluminum wiring on the branch circuits, a 100-amp panel and two-prong outlets somewhere in the house. Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels, both recalled after installation, still turn up regularly on our calls.

Kimberton sits 3.0 miles from Phoenixville and Valley Forge 3.3, both covered by the same crew that answers in the borough itself, dispatching from home rather than a central shop. Call 610-489-1300 any hour, any day of the year.

PECO Energy Company is the primary electric utility here, with PPL Electric Utilities and Met-Ed / Penelec covering other parts of Chester County. PECO restores their own lines; what a storm leaves behind inside the house is on us. The remnants of Hurricane Ida brought flash flooding to parts of the county in September 2021, including along the Schuylkill and Brandywine watersheds. If your basement took water then and the system was never checked, it's worth a look.

Common Electrical Projects in Phoenixville Homes

Most Phoenixville calls start at the panel. A 1974 build often still runs on 100 amps, and a Federal Pacific or Zinsco label moves replacement to the top of the list rather than a repair. A 200-amp panel upgrade adds real capacity in the same visit.

Aluminum branch wiring is the other common thread. Warm cover plates and flickering lights usually trace back to a loose connection, which we remake with connectors rated for the metal rather than a temporary fix. Two-prong outlets get proper grounding or GFCI protection.

Then there's what a 1974 house never planned for: a dedicated circuit for a Level 2 EV charger, or a standby generator with an automatic transfer switch for the next long outage. As a certified Generac dealer, we install and service those too.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Phoenixville

Phoenixville Borough issues electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code. Like most municipalities in the county, it contracts plan review and inspection out to a third-party agency rather than staffing that department itself, and the surrounding townships each use their own. We pull the permit, book the inspection, and are there when the inspector arrives.

PECO Energy Company serves Phoenixville, so a service upgrade, meter move or panel swap also runs through PECO. Those jobs need a disconnect and reconnect at the meter, which we schedule directly. Storm damage to the lines is PECO's to repair; everything behind the meter is ours, at any hour.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Phoenixville Electrical FAQs

Is there an emergency electrician in Phoenixville at night?

Yes. We're on call 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included, and the electrician who responds is local to Chester County, dispatching from home instead of a distant shop. They drive a fully stocked TEE van, so most repairs finish in one visit. Call 610-489-1300 whenever the problem starts.

Can a 1970s Phoenixville house handle an EV charger?

Usually, once we check the panel. A Level 2 charger needs its own circuit, and a 100-amp panel from 1974 often doesn't have the room left. If it's full, or carries a recalled brand, we upgrade to 200 amps first and coordinate the meter side with PECO.

The power is out in Phoenixville. Do I call you or PECO?

Look outside first. If the whole street is dark, that's a PECO outage, and they'll restore it on their own timeline. If only your house is dark, or just some rooms lost power, the trouble is likely past the meter, which is ours to fix, any hour.

What should an inspection cover before buying an older Phoenixville home?

The panel brand and the branch wiring, mainly. A Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel gets replaced, not repaired, and aluminum wiring needs every connection checked. Our electrical safety inspection covers both, with a written quote for anything we find.
