Electric service in Potter County comes from two providers. Penelec, part of FirstEnergy, is the primary utility, and Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative serves other areas of the county. Which one you have changes the paperwork on a service upgrade, and we handle that coordination. Lines, poles and the meter itself belong to the utility. The panel, the wiring and everything inside the house belong to you, and that is where we come in.
Potter County spans more than a thousand square miles, and we also work in the neighboring counties of Tioga, Lycoming and Clinton. If you have a camp, a farmhouse or a year-round home anywhere in that stretch, we can put it on the schedule.
The typical Potter County home was built around 1969, and that year tells an electrician a lot. Copper was expensive in the late 1960s, so many builders ran aluminum branch wiring to outlets and lights. Aluminum expands and contracts more than copper, connections loosen over the years, and a loose connection is where heat and fire risk start. Signs include warm cover plates, flickering lights and outlets that stop working for no reason. We fix it with approved connectors or, where it makes sense, a rewire.
Two other era problems come up constantly. Two-prong outlets with no ground leave your electronics and your family unprotected, and we add grounded outlets room by room or whole-house. A 100 amp panel built for a 1969 load struggles with today's appliances, and we upgrade panels to 200 amps. Add a generator while we are at it, and long outages stop being an emergency.
Every electrical permit in Pennsylvania runs under the state Uniform Construction Code, but the way it is administered depends on the municipality. Most townships and boroughs in Potter County do not have a building department of their own. Instead they contract with a third-party inspection agency, and that agency reviews the plans and inspects the finished work. We deal with this every day. We pull the permit through your municipality, book the inspection, and are there when the inspector arrives.
Utility coordination is the other half. If Penelec serves your home, a service upgrade needs a scheduled disconnect and reconnect on their end. If you are a Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative member, the process is similar but the contacts and forms differ. We manage both. Once the meter is set and the inspector signs off, the panel and everything behind it is ours to stand behind.

Yes. We list it because we serve it, not to fill a map. Our electricians here are locals on our payroll. They roll out from home with vans stocked to finish the work in a single visit. We give you a realistic arrival window, and we waive the dispatch fee if we miss it.
Look at the printing on the cable jacket in an unfinished basement or attic. Aluminum cable is usually marked AL or ALUMINUM. Homes in Potter County built in the late 1960s and early 1970s are the prime candidates. If you cannot see the cable, we can check at the panel and a few outlets during a safety inspection.
In Pennsylvania, yes. A panel replacement is permitted work under the Uniform Construction Code, and in most of Potter County the inspection goes through a third-party agency hired by your township.
