The typical West Chester home dates to 1954, older than most of the rest of Chester County. Knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes, 60-amp services and ungrounded outlets are still common in the borough's older blocks. We check the panel and the wiring type before we quote anything.

Remnants of Hurricane Ida brought flash flooding to parts of Chester County in September 2021, and a basement that flooded that year deserves a second look if the panel was never inspected.
Start with the wiring. A 1954 West Chester home may still have knob-and-tube in the attic or walls, some of it live, some abandoned under later insulation. We trace it, disconnect what's no longer needed and rewire the rest safely.
Next, the panel. Fuse boxes and 60-amp services were normal in 1954 and aren't enough now. A 200-amp panel upgrade clears out the fuses and gives a modern house room to grow. Ungrounded, two-prong outlets get a real ground or GFCI protection along the way.
Then the additions a 1954 house never planned for: a Level 2 EV charger on its own circuit, a dedicated circuit for a finished basement, or a standby generator with an automatic transfer switch for the next long outage. As a certified Generac dealer, we install and service those too.
West Chester Borough issues electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code. Like most Chester County municipalities, it relies on a third-party inspection agency rather than running its own building department. We pull the permit, book the inspection and walk the inspector through the finished work. All of it sits inside the written quote you approve first.
