The Thomas Edison difference

Your Chambersburg Electricians

Need a Chambersburg electrician? Thomas Edison Electric sends local crews across Franklin County. Chambersburg is the county seat, ZIP 17201, and our electricians dispatch from their own homes nearby, not a central yard. Scotland, Marion and Fayetteville sit just outside town, and we cover all three.

We're a family-owned, multigenerational company, and Pennsylvania has licensed us as PA075449. Every job is insured. Our electricians pass a background check first, then keep training weekly. The line is open 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays too. You get a written quote before we start, and a waived dispatch fee if we're running behind.

Electrical Service Across Chambersburg

Chambersburg homes typically date to 1963. Aluminum branch wiring shows up often from that era. So do 100-amp panels and two-prong outlets. Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels, both recalled, still turn up in older homes too.

Chambersburg runs its own electric department, right inside the borough. That's different from most towns we serve, where an outside utility owns the lines. Just past the borough line, Met-Ed, Adams Electric Cooperative or Valley Rural Electric Cooperative may serve you instead. Either way, a panel upgrade or meter move still needs coordination, and we handle that call for you. Call 215-227-7000 any hour.

The same crews reach Scotland, Marion, Fayetteville and Saint Thomas. Pleasant Hall and Mont Alto are on the route too. Big project or small, the price is in writing first.

Common Electrical Projects in Chambersburg Homes

A 1963 Chambersburg home often runs on a 100-amp panel, sometimes less. We upgrade to a full 200 amps and clear out any breaker issues the old panel was hiding.

If the panel carries the Federal Pacific or Zinsco label, replacement comes first. Both brands have a recall history, and we don't patch around them. Aluminum branch wiring gets the same attention. We remake loose connections with approved connectors, or run new copper where that's the better fix.

From there, most Chambersburg calls turn to additions. A home EV charger needs its own circuit. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch covers the next outage, and we're a certified Generac dealer for both the install and the service after.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Chambersburg

Chambersburg Borough issues its own electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code. Most townships nearby hand inspections to a third-party agency instead of running their own department. Either way, we pull the permit and book the inspector, and the fee sits inside your written quote.

Power here is different from most of the county. Chambersburg Borough Electric Department serves the borough directly, instead of an outside utility. A service upgrade or meter move still means a scheduled disconnect and reconnect, and we set that up on your behalf. Outside the borough line, Met-Ed, Adams Electric Cooperative or Valley Rural Electric Cooperative may own your service instead, and we check which one applies before we start.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Chambersburg Electrical FAQs

Why does Chambersburg have its own electric department?

The borough runs it separately from the co-ops and Met-Ed that serve the rest of Franklin County. It changes who we call for a disconnect, not how we do the electrical work itself. We confirm your utility before scheduling so the visit isn't held up later.

Is a 1963 Chambersburg home too old for an EV charger?

Usually not, once we look at the panel. A 100-amp panel from 1963 is often full or close to it, so a Level 2 charger may need a panel upgrade first. We check the load, size the new panel if needed and give you a written price for both pieces before starting.

Are Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels dangerous in Chambersburg homes?

Both brands have a documented recall history, and we recommend replacement rather than repair. If your panel carries either label, we can usually swap it for a new 200-amp panel in a single visit, with a written quote first. It's one of the most common jobs we do in Chambersburg's older neighborhoods.

Do you send electricians to Chambersburg at night?

Yes. Our line answers 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included. The electrician who shows up lives in the area and drives a fully stocked TEE van, so most repairs finish in that one visit. Call 215-227-7000 and tell us what's happening.
