Forest City's median home dates to 1951. Builders in that decade often used fuses instead of breakers, on 60-amp service. Additions since then sometimes ran on knob-and-tube wiring that stayed in place for decades, and ungrounded, two-prong outlets round out the picture. None of it makes the house unsafe on its own. Still, it is worth confirming with an electrical safety inspection before a renovation.
Our fix for the fuse box is a modern breaker panel, usually 200 amps. We size it for what a household actually runs today. We pull old knob-and-tube runs instead of leaving them behind a new wall, and outlets get a real ground or GFCI protection. The price for any of it is in writing before we start.
Who inspects electrical work here? A third-party agency, hired by the borough. That is the same setup most of Susquehanna County relies on, under the state's Uniform Construction Code. We deal with that office directly, filing the permit and scheduling the inspection. You only have to deal with us.
PPL Electric Utilities is the main utility here. Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative and Met-Ed serve other parts of the county. A service upgrade needs a disconnect and reconnect at the meter, and we book both ends with your provider. Once the utility restores storm-damaged lines, a damaged mast or a wet panel on the house is ours to repair.
