The typical house here dates to 1942. Homes of that age often keep knob-and-tube remnants in the attic, a fuse box in the basement and a 60-amp service feeding it. Two-prong outlets with no ground are the norm in the bedrooms.
The fix comes in stages, and you pick the pace. First, a breaker panel with 200-amp service replaces the fuse box. Next, we trace any knob-and-tube that still carries power and swap it for grounded copper. Then the two-prong outlets get a real ground or GFCI protection.
