Thomas Edison Electric fields Northumberland electrician calls throughout this borough of about 3,866 people, ZIP 17857, 2 miles from Sunbury.

Family-owned across generations, our crew holds Pennsylvania license PA075449 and carries full insurance. Nobody gets sent to a job before clearing a background check and completing weekly code training. The phone rings through any hour, 365 days a year, 570-648-8800. Every job starts with a written number, and a late arrival costs us the dispatch fee.

1949 Wiring in Northumberland Borough Homes

Nineteen forty-nine is the typical build year in Northumberland, old enough for a fuse box to still be doing its original job in plenty of houses. Sixty-amp service and ungrounded outlets tend to come with that territory.

Our crews split time between Northumberland, Sunbury, Snydertown, Montandon and Potts Grove, so a small borough call does not sit behind bigger jobs elsewhere. A panel upgrade or a dedicated circuit for a window unit are both routine requests here, priced the same way regardless of size.

Common Electrical Projects in Northumberland Homes

Plenty of Northumberland's 1949-era houses are still running their first fuse box. The requests we field most:

  • Breaker panel conversions. A 200-amp upgrade replaces an undersized fuse box in a single visit.

  • Grounding old outlets. Two-prong receptacles from the era get a proper ground or GFCI protection.

  • Fuse holder checks. A mismatched fuse size causes more trouble than the fuse box design itself.

  • Small dedicated circuits. Window units, sump pumps, workshop tools. See dedicated circuits.

  • Pre-purchase inspections. See electrical safety inspections for buyers and sellers alike.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Northumberland

Northumberland Borough follows the same Uniform Construction Code every Pennsylvania municipality answers to, contracting inspections out to a third party rather than staffing its own building office. Filing the paperwork and standing with the inspector both fall to us.

PPL Electric Utilities handles most of the borough's power, with Citizens Electric Company covering other pockets of the county. Panel work or a new meter base means scheduling a disconnect and reconnect, which we arrange. A downed line is the utility's problem to solve. Everything on the house side of the meter is ours.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Northumberland Electrical FAQs

Can someone reach Northumberland for an emergency at night?

Yes, any hour of any day, 365 days a year. Crews dispatch from their own homes across the county rather than a central shop, so a small borough is not an afterthought. Call 570-648-8800.

How old does a fuse box have to be before it needs replacing?

Age alone is not the test. What matters is whether the 60-amp total still covers what the house runs, and whether the fuse holders show wear or mismatched sizing. We inspect both before recommending a breaker panel.

Who do I call when the power drops in Northumberland?

Start by checking whether neighbors are dark too. A shared outage belongs to PPL Electric Utilities or Citizens Electric Company. A single house out, or a breaker that will not hold, is ours to chase down.

Is a small job like a ceiling fan worth calling in?

Absolutely. A wobbling fan or a dead switch gets the same licensed electrician and the same written price as a full panel swap. Nothing is too minor to schedule.
