“ Joan was very knowledgable and efficient at doing his job. He answered any questions that we had and stayed later in the day until the task was completed.

The Thomas Edison difference

Meet Your Oxford Electricians

Oxford Borough sits among Lincoln University, Nottingham and New London in southern Chester County, and Thomas Edison Electric covers all of it with electricians who live in the area and dispatch from their own homes, not a shared yard. ZIP 19363 is ours, vans stocked and ready.

Insurance, a PA075449 license and a family-owned, multigenerational track record back every visit. We put the price in writing before starting, answer around the clock, and cover the dispatch fee ourselves if we show up late.

1980 panels, checked first

Most Oxford homes are near their original capacity, so we start by measuring headroom.

Employees, not contractors

Every electrician is ours, dispatching from home in a stocked TEE van.

PECO scheduling done for you

Meter disconnects and reconnects are booked as part of the job, not an extra step.

A number before a wrench

The quote is written and approved before work begins.

Around the clock, every day

Late means the dispatch fee is on us, not you.

Electrical Service in and Around Oxford

Oxford homes cluster around a 1980 build year, right where aluminum wiring was phasing out in favor of copper. Copper is what we find most often, but the 100-amp panels from that decade rarely have room left for a heat pump or an EV charger without an upgrade.

We cover Lincoln University, 3.2 miles from Oxford, and Nottingham, 3.4, with the same crew that answers calls in the borough itself. PECO Energy Company is the main utility, and PPL Electric Utilities and Met-Ed / Penelec serve other stretches of Chester County. The number is 610-777-7600.

Common Electrical Projects in Oxford Homes

Panel capacity drives most of the work we do in Oxford. A 1980 build usually shipped with 100 amps, plenty for the appliances of the day but tight once central air, a hot tub or an EV charger joins in. A 200-amp upgrade buys the room back in one visit.

A handful of panels from this era still carry the Federal Pacific or Zinsco name, both recalled since installation, so we check the label on every call regardless of what brought us out. A Level 2 EV charger gets its own circuit, sized to what the panel can actually support.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Oxford

Oxford Borough issues electrical permits the way most of Chester County does, under the state's Uniform Construction Code, with plan review and inspection handled by a contracted third party. We pull the permit and handle the inspector's visit ourselves.

PECO Energy Company meters most of Oxford. A panel upgrade or service change needs their disconnect and reconnect at the meter, which we schedule directly. Storm damage on their lines is PECO's repair; everything past the meter is ours, any hour.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Oxford Electrical FAQs

Can I get an electrician to Oxford after hours?

Yes, we're on call 24/7, 365 days a year. The electrician who responds dispatches from home in a fully stocked TEE van. Call 610-777-7600 to get one moving.

My Oxford home's panel is labeled Federal Pacific. Is that a problem?

It's worth an inspection. Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels from that era were recalled and are generally replaced rather than repaired. We'll check the label and give you a written number the same visit.

Is a 1980 Oxford panel enough for an EV charger?

Sometimes, but check first. A 100-amp panel from 1980 often has little headroom left once everything else is running. If it's close, or the brand is recalled, a 200-amp upgrade is the fix.

How do I know if an outage is on PECO's side or mine?

Step outside. If the whole block is dark, that's PECO, restored on their schedule. If it's just your house, the issue is likely past the meter, which is on our side to fix, any hour.
