Aluminum branch wiring fails at its connections, not along the wire. Over the decades the metal expands, contracts and loosens under screw terminals. The signs are a warm cover plate, a flickering light or a faint burnt smell at an outlet. In Villanova, we open the boxes, remake each joint with connectors rated for aluminum and replace any scorched device. A full rewire is rare.
The panel is the other 1961 leftover. Federal Pacific and Zinsco breakers can fail to trip, so we replace those panels instead of repairing them. A healthy 100-amp panel might stay, unless you want a Level 2 EV charger or a heat pump. Then 200 amps makes more sense.
Storms matter here too. The remnants of Hurricane Ida cut power and flooded parts of Delaware County in September 2021. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch keeps a Villanova house running through the next long outage, and as a certified Generac dealer, we size, install and service them.

Standby power rounds out the list. A Generac generator with an automatic transfer switch picks up the house within seconds of an outage. We size it to the circuits you want covered, from the furnace and refrigerator to the whole panel.
Villanova is not a borough, so electrical permits come from the township under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code. Most Delaware County townships use a third-party inspection agency for plan review and the final inspection. We pull the permit, book the inspection and walk the inspector through the work. The permit fee appears in your written quote before you approve the job.
PECO Energy Company is the electric utility for ZIP 19085. A panel replacement needs PECO to pull the meter and set it back after inspection, and we schedule both ends. When the whole street loses power, PECO restores the lines. Inside the house, from the meter on, the repair is ours at any hour.

Villanova Electrical FAQs
With the power off, look at the wire in the panel or inside an outlet box. Silver wire means aluminum, orange means copper. You can also look for AL or ALUMINUM printed on the cable jacket. Houses from 1961 in Villanova often have it on the branch circuits, and an electrical safety inspection settles the question.
Yes. Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels carry a recall because their breakers can fail to trip under a fault. Repair is not an option; replacement is. We install a 200-amp panel, arrange the PECO meter pull and give you the price in writing before we start.
