A 1956 house now does more than its wiring planned for. A home office with two monitors, a printer and a router on one bedroom circuit. An EV in the driveway. A kitchen with an induction range. The panel from 1956, often 60 amps behind a fuse box, cannot carry all of it, and outlets with no ground do not suit the equipment.
So we work in two steps. First we build capacity: a breaker panel, usually at 200 amps, with PECO coordinating the meter. Then we run the circuits the house needs, from a dedicated line for the office to a Level 2 charger in the garage, plus data lines so the office runs on cable rather than a weak signal.
Our electricians work for Thomas Edison Electric directly, leave from their own homes around Delaware County and carry the parts with them. Quotes come in writing first. Arrive late on our side, and the dispatch fee comes off.
Panels first. A 1956 service, especially a fuse box, becomes a 200-amp breaker panel before we add anything else.
Then the additions. A Level 2 EV charger on its own circuit. A dedicated circuit for the home office, with a hardwired data drop to the desk. GFCI protection and grounded outlets where the old two-prong ones sat. Knob-and-tube remnants traced and removed from the attic.
And since the Ida flooding of September 2021 reached basements across Delaware County, any Wayne panel or outlet that took on water gets an inspection while we are there.
Wayne is not a borough, so electrical permits go through the township under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. The township, like most in Delaware County, uses a third-party agency for inspections, and that is true whichever of the four ZIP codes you live in. We pull the permit, schedule the inspector and show the cost on your written quote.
PECO Energy Company delivers power across all four ZIPs. A panel upgrade needs PECO to pull the meter and reconnect after inspection, and we book both. Street outages are PECO's to restore. Inside the meter, the work is ours, any hour of the year.
