The typical Ambler house dates to 1954. Borough homes of that age often keep a fuse box, a 60-amp service, ungrounded outlets and a few knob-and-tube remnants that an earlier rewire missed. Those parts were fine for a 1954 kitchen. A modern one, with a dishwasher, a microwave and an induction range, needs more.
So we start at the service. If the house still runs on 60 amps and fuses, a 200-amp breaker panel is the first project, and we book PECO Energy Company for the reconnect. Then we ground the outlets, replace any live knob-and-tube and add circuits for the appliances. Each step gets its own line on the written quote.
In September 2021, the remnants of Hurricane Ida flooded Montgomery County and cut power across the county. Our Ambler electricians, who also cover Gwynedd Valley, Oreland and Flourtown, still find panels that sat in that water. If yours did, book an inspection.
A 1954 Ambler home usually needs its wiring caught up in a certain order. The service comes first, because a 60-amp fuse box cannot feed anything new. A panel upgrade to 200 amps opens the door.
