Elizabethtown Electrical FAQs
It can be, if the connections were never updated. Aluminum expands and contracts more than copper, so joints loosen over time and build up heat at outlets and switches. The fix isn't a full rewire. We remake each connection with connectors rated for aluminum, which resolves the risk without opening every wall.
Worth scheduling soon. Both brands were recalled over breakers that can fail to trip during a fault, and a 1964-era home is a common place to find one. We quote the replacement, usually to 200 amps, in writing before starting.
Usually, with a dedicated circuit or two added first. A double oven, microwave and induction cooktop each want their own circuit, and a 1964-era kitchen was rarely wired for all three. We size the additions to the panel and put the price in writing before we start.
Start outside. A dark block or street means a PPL outage, and their crews handle the repair to the lines. A dark house while the neighbors still have power points to something behind the meter, which is our job at any hour.
