PPL Electric Utilities serves most of Lancaster County. Met-Ed covers parts of it. The borough of Ephrata runs its own electric system. That means an Ephrata address has the borough, not PPL, as your utility. That difference matters when we upgrade a service or swap a meter base. We schedule the disconnect and reconnect with whoever owns the meter. We handle that call and the timing.
The rule for who fixes what is simple. Poles, lines, transformers and the meter are the utility's. The panel, the wiring, the outlets and the fixtures are yours, and that is what we service. If the whole street is dark, the utility should hear from you first. If it is only your house, or only part of it, call us.

Lancaster County has a long list of boroughs and townships. Under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, each one issues its own electrical permits. Most hire a third-party agency to inspect. In practice that means the process in Lancaster city, Lititz, Ephrata and Quarryville can each look a little different. We deal with that variety all the time. Pulling the permit and scheduling the inspection are part of the job. Both are in your written quote.
Utilities work the same way. For most of the county that is PPL Electric Utilities; for some areas it is Met-Ed. Inside Ephrata borough, it is the borough's own electric department. We schedule a service upgrade or meter base swap with the right one. That keeps the house without power for as short a time as possible. Neighborhood outage, call the utility. Lancaster County Electrical FAQs
Probably not. Ephrata borough runs its own electric system. If you are inside the borough, your utility is the borough itself. That changes who we work with for a service upgrade or meter change, but nothing else about the job. Outside the borough, PPL or Met-Ed is likely your utility.
Often yes, sometimes only after a panel upgrade. A home built around 1978 often has a 100-amp service, and a Level 2 charger is a big new load. We do a load calculation and tell you in writing whether the existing panel has room. Then we quote the upgrade if it does not.
Yes. Our Lancaster County electricians are our own people, and they live and work in the area. They leave from their own homes in stocked TEE vans.
