Start in the basement. Many 1938 homes here still have a fuse box with a 60-amp service behind it. That was plenty for a radio and an icebox. It is not enough for central air, a modern kitchen and a dryer running at once.
Then look up. Knob-and-tube remnants often survive in attics and inside plaster walls, and some runs still carry power. Two-prong outlets with no ground sit in most bedrooms of that age. We trace the live runs, replace them with grounded copper and give the outlets a real ground or GFCI protection.
