Hamburg is one of the larger boroughs in this part of the county, with roughly 4,456 residents and a median home built in 1965. Aluminum branch wiring, 100-amp panels and two-prong outlets show up often at that age, along with the occasional recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel.
Met-Ed, part of FirstEnergy, is the electric utility here, and PPL Electric Utilities covers other stretches of the county. Met-Ed owns the poles and the meter, so any service upgrade or meter move gets scheduled through them. From the meter inward, wiring, panels and outlets are our responsibility.
