The Thomas Edison difference

Pittston Electricians Covering All Three ZIPs

A Pittston electrician from Thomas Edison Electric covers all three of the city's ZIP codes, 18640, 18641 and 18643. Duryea sits 2.2 miles off and Wyoming 2.7, with Luzerne, Kingston, Wilkes-Barre and Shavertown further out, all part of Luzerne County.

The electrician who shows up works for Thomas Edison Electric directly, not through a subcontractor, and leaves for the call from home in a fully stocked TEE van. We're licensed under PA075449, fully insured, and answer 24/7, 365 days a year, with a written quote before work starts.

Wiring Age Across Pittston's Older Blocks

The typical Pittston home dates to 1947. Houses from that era often still carry knob-and-tube remnants, a fuse box instead of breakers, 60-amp service, and outlets with no ground wire.

We check the panel and the grounding first, then scope what the rest of the house needs. A fuse box becomes a breaker panel through circuit breaker repair and upgrades, and knob-and-tube segments get traced and retired rather than just capped. City blocks here also mean older service drops and shared walls, so we check the whole path from meter to panel, not just the panel itself.

Common Electrical Projects in Pittston Homes

A 1947 Pittston house was wired for a much smaller electrical load than most homes carry today. We start with the panel.

A fuse box or a maxed-out 60-amp service becomes a modern breaker panel through circuit breaker repair and upgrades. Knob-and-tube segments get traced and retired, not just capped off and forgotten. Ungrounded outlets get GFCI protection where a full rewire isn't the next step.

Once the panel has room, a backup generator or a dedicated circuit for a workshop becomes simple to add.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Pittston

Being a city doesn't change how Pittston handles electrical permits. The state's Uniform Construction Code applies here just as it does in the smallest township, and plan review typically runs through a third-party agency rather than an in-house building department. We handle the filing and stand for the inspection.

PPL Electric Utilities supplies power across most of the city, with pockets served by UGI Electric or Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative. A panel or meter upgrade needs a disconnect and reconnect on the utility's end, and we build that into the schedule. A downed line or a dead block is the utility's problem to fix. Once power reaches your meter, everything past it belongs to us.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Pittston Electrical FAQs

Is there a 24-hour electrician who covers all of Pittston?

Yes, all three ZIP codes. We answer calls around the clock, 365 days a year, holidays included. Electricians dispatch from home in fully stocked TEE vans, ready to finish the job that visit.

My Pittston home still has knob-and-tube wiring. Is it safe?

Old knob-and-tube itself isn't automatically dangerous, but connections degrade and it was never meant for modern loads. We trace it, retire what needs retiring, and quote the work in writing first.

Who handles a power outage in Pittston, you or the utility?

The utility. If your block is dark, PPL, UGI or Claverack is already working on it. If only your panel or part of your house lost power, that's ours to fix, any hour.

Will you pull the permit for a panel upgrade in Pittston?

Yes. Pittston issues permits under the state's Uniform Construction Code, and we handle the filing and the inspection. The cost sits in your written quote before work begins.
