PPL Electric Utilities powers most Luzerne County homes. UGI Electric serves other parts of the county, and some rural pockets belong to the Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative. It matters which one you have. When we upgrade a service or replace a meter base, we coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with your utility. Each of the three has its own paperwork and scheduling. We handle that for you. The simple rule: the lines to the meter are the utility's, and everything from the meter into the house is ours.
The typical Luzerne County home dates to around 1960. That means plenty of 60-amp services and panels with no room left. It also means ungrounded two-prong outlets, and in the houses built during the boom that followed, aluminum branch wiring. We see these every week, and we know how to bring them up to current code without tearing your walls apart.

Electrical permits in Pennsylvania fall under the state Uniform Construction Code. In Luzerne County that means each municipality runs its own process, usually through a third-party inspection agency the township or borough has contracted with. The rules in Kingston may not match the rules in Dallas or Hazleton. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector, so you do not have to learn the local routine.
Utility work is separate. If you upgrade your service or replace your meter base, we set up the disconnect and reconnect with PPL Electric Utilities, UGI Electric or Claverack, depending on who serves your address. Power outages, downed lines and anything on the pole side of the meter are the utility's to fix.
