The Thomas Edison difference

Plymouth Electricians for a Pre-War Borough

A Plymouth electrician from Thomas Edison Electric already works this borough, ZIP 18651. Kingston sits 2.9 miles off, Wilkes-Barre 3.3, and Luzerne, Nanticoke, Shavertown and Mountain Top round out the area, all inside Luzerne County, where our crews already work every week.

We don't use subcontractors. Every electrician on staff is hired directly and drives out from home in a fully stocked TEE van. We hold PA075449 and full insurance, answer 24/7 including holidays, and put the price in writing before work starts.

Built in 1944

Knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes and 60-amp service are familiar work for our crews.

Pre-war wiring, modern fixes

We bring 1940s electrical systems up to current code without tearing out every wall.

Direct employees only

No subcontractors, ever, just electricians who work for Thomas Edison Electric.

Written quote first

We settle the price before any tool comes out.

24/7, holidays included

A tripped breaker at midnight still gets a licensed electrician.

Weekly trained crew

Our electricians train regularly to stay current on code.

Wiring From Plymouth's 1944 Housing Stock

The typical Plymouth home dates to 1944, older than most of the county. Expect knob-and-tube remnants, a fuse box instead of breakers, 60-amp service, and outlets with no ground pin.

We check the panel and the grounding on the first visit, since a fuse box this old is a bigger limitation than most people expect. A fuse box becomes a modern breaker panel through circuit breaker repair and upgrades, and ungrounded outlets get GFCI protection where a full rewire isn't the next step yet.

Common Electrical Projects in Plymouth Homes

A 1944 Plymouth house was wired long before central air, computers or a microwave existed. The panel is where we start every time.

A fuse box or a maxed-out 60-amp service becomes a modern breaker panel through circuit breaker repair and upgrades. Knob-and-tube segments get traced and retired, not just capped and left behind a wall.

Once the panel has room, a backup generator or custom lighting becomes a same-visit conversation instead of a bigger project.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Plymouth

Getting a permit in Plymouth means going through the borough itself, not a separate county office, under the state's Uniform Construction Code. The borough contracts a third-party agency for plan review and inspection rather than staffing that role in house. Filing the permit and meeting the inspector is on us, not you.

PPL Electric Utilities delivers power through most of the borough, with UGI Electric and Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative covering some nearby areas. A service upgrade needs a coordinated disconnect and reconnect, which we schedule around your job. Downed lines and outages go to the utility to fix. From the meter into the house, that's our territory.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Plymouth Electrical FAQs

Is there a 24-hour electrician for Plymouth Borough?

Yes. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included. Electricians dispatch from home in fully stocked TEE vans, so a Plymouth call gets a real person, ready to work that visit.

My Plymouth home still has a fuse box. Should I worry?

A fuse box from 1944 was sized for a much smaller household. Overloading it, not the fuse box itself, is the real risk. We assess the load and quote a breaker panel upgrade in writing.

Who do I call when the power is out in Plymouth?

Check your street first. A wide outage means PPL, UGI or Claverack is already on it. If your neighbors have power and you don't, that points to your panel, and that's our job.

Will you pull the permit for electrical work in Plymouth?

Yes. Plymouth issues permits under the state's Uniform Construction Code, and we handle the filing and the inspection. The cost is part of your written quote before work starts.
