The Thomas Edison difference

Shenandoah Electricians, Local and On Call

Looking for a Shenandoah electrician? Thomas Edison Electric's crews live in this part of Schuylkill County and answer calls here every day of the year. Shenandoah is home to 4,146 people, more than most boroughs nearby. Gilberton sits 1.6 miles off, Frackville 2.9, and Mahanoy City 3.1.

Most of Shenandoah's housing dates to 1938, so knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes, 60 amp services and ungrounded outlets still turn up regularly. We hold PA license PA075449, and our electricians dispatch from home in fully stocked TEE vans. Call 610-777-7600 any hour.

Coverage and Utility Service in Shenandoah

PPL Electric Utilities serves Shenandoah and this part of the county, so a service upgrade or meter change means one utility to coordinate with. Lost Creek, Mahanoy Plane and Ringtown are close enough that the same crew covers each, and we also work west toward Frackville.

Our electricians handle everything from a flickering hallway light to a full panel replacement, carrying the parts for same-day work in a fully stocked TEE van. You get a written price before anyone picks up a tool, and if we run late, we waive the dispatch fee.

Common Electrical Projects in Shenandoah Homes

Shenandoah's housing mostly dates to 1938, so we spend a lot of time on the basics that come with a house that age. Knob-and-tube wiring gets traced and removed. Fuse boxes are common too, and most homeowners move to a breaker panel once we walk through the upgrade options.

A 60 amp service was fine for a 1938 kitchen, not for central air and a dryer together, so we bring the service up to 100 or 200 amps. Two-prong outlets get grounded, and a safety inspection tells you what your house still needs.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Shenandoah

Shenandoah Borough issues electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, and like most boroughs in the county, it relies on a third-party agency to inspect the work. We file the permit and meet the inspector for you.

PPL Electric Utilities serves Shenandoah, and any service upgrade involves a coordinated disconnect and reconnect at the meter, which we schedule with PPL directly. If the power is out on the street, that is PPL's repair. Trouble at your panel or inside the walls is ours, any hour.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Shenandoah Electrical FAQs

Is there a 24-hour electrician in Shenandoah?

Yes. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, and our electricians dispatch from home in this part of Schuylkill County. Call 610-777-7600 whenever it comes up.

My Shenandoah house still has a fuse box. Should I replace it?

Most homes from 1938 started with one. It is usually a sign of a small, aging service, not an emergency by itself. Swapping it for a breaker panel at 100 or 200 amps is a straightforward, permitted job.

How do I know if my house has knob-and-tube wiring?

Look for ceramic knobs holding single wires apart in the attic or basement. In a borough where most houses date to 1938, some almost always remains. An inspection confirms it and gives you a written price.

Are Thomas Edison Electric crews local to Shenandoah or subcontracted?

Local, and on our own payroll. Every electrician who answers a Shenandoah call works for Thomas Edison Electric directly, dispatching from home in a stocked TEE van, with a written quote before work begins.
