Snyder County is one of the simplest places we work, at least on the utility side. PPL Electric Utilities serves the county, so there is no guessing about who owns the pole. On a panel upgrade or a new service, we schedule the disconnect and reconnect with PPL. We set the meter base to their specs. Then we get the inspection done so they can turn you back on. If the outage is on the lines, it is PPL's. If it is anywhere past the meter, it is ours.
Middleburg is the county seat, and the electricians who cover it are on our own payroll. They leave from their own homes in TEE vans stocked with what your job needs. We also serve the neighboring counties of Union, Northumberland, Mifflin and Juniata. So a call from just across the county line lands with the same crew.
What do we do here? Emergency repairs any hour, aluminum wiring corrections, panel upgrades, dedicated circuits for shops and barns, EV chargers, generator transfer switches and lighting. Small county, full service.
The median Snyder County home dates to 1973, right in the window when aluminum branch wiring was common. Aluminum was cheaper than copper at the time. It works fine until the connections at outlets, switches and light fixtures loosen with heat cycling. Then you get warm plates, flickering and, in bad cases, scorching. The fix is not always a full rewire. Approved copper pigtails at every device solve most of it, and we tell you which approach fits your house.
The same era brought 100 amp panels and two-prong outlets. A 100 amp service was plenty for 1973. It is not plenty for a heat pump, an electric range, a dryer and a Level 2 EV charger. We upgrade to 200 amps, replace ungrounded outlets, and add dedicated circuits for the big loads. We also install EV chargers in garages from Selinsgrove to Middleburg, and the panel conversation usually comes first.
Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code governs electrical permits statewide, but each municipality decides how to administer it. Most Snyder County townships and boroughs hire a third-party inspection agency instead of employing an inspector. So the process in Middleburg is not necessarily the process in Selinsgrove or Freeburg. We handle the difference. We file the permit through your municipality as part of our job, and we schedule and attend the inspection.
With PPL Electric Utilities serving the county, the utility side is predictable. A service upgrade or meter move means a coordinated disconnect, our work on the panel and service entrance, an inspection, and a reconnect by PPL.
