Renovating a 1949 house means meeting its wiring. A new kitchen, a finished attic or a better lighting plan each reaches a point where the old cable cannot carry the load or has no ground. That is where we come in.
Knob-and-tube comes out before insulation goes in. Fuse boxes give way to breaker panels. Kitchens gain dedicated circuits for the range, the dishwasher and the microwave. Then the good part: custom lighting that suits an older house, and ceiling fans hung on boxes rated to hold them.

Not while the wiring is live. Knob-and-tube sheds heat into open air, and insulation traps that heat. We trace the runs, replace the live ones with new grounded cable and confirm the rest are dead. After that, insulate away.
Often, yes, since LED fixtures draw little power. The catch is the box and the switch loop behind the wall. If the circuit still has knob-and-tube or has no ground, we replace that section while we install the lighting, and the quote covers both.
Usually not. A standard light box in a 1949 Swarthmore house lacks the rating for the weight and motion of a fan. We install a fan-rated brace and box, then hang the fan. That is a routine visit from a stocked van.
Yes. New circuits, a subpanel or a panel upgrade all fall under the Uniform Construction Code, and Swarthmore Borough's inspection agency checks the work. We pull the permit as part of the job and coordinate the inspection with your contractor's schedule.
