Usually, after we check the panel. A 100-amp panel from that period often lacks room for a large new circuit, and a recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel gets replaced regardless. Either way, the price comes in writing first.
The wire itself is not the issue, the connections are. Loose joints on aluminum wiring can overheat over time, so we check every connection and remake what needs it with hardware rated for aluminum.
Check your neighbors first. A dark block is a PPL outage. If only your house lost power, the trouble is likely on your side of the meter, and that is where we come in.
