Electrical Service in and Around Fleetwood

Fleetwood is a borough, and the typical home here dates to 1967. That means aluminum branch wiring, 100-amp panels, two-prong outlets, and every so often a recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel. We check the panel label first on most service calls, since that detail decides the rest of the job.

Met-Ed, part of FirstEnergy, delivers power to most of Fleetwood, and PPL Electric Utilities covers other parts of the county. Kutztown, 4.9 miles away, runs its own borough-owned electric system, so a house near that line follows different rules at the meter. Whichever utility feeds your house, we handle the coordination.

Common Electrical Projects in Fleetwood Homes

A 1967 Fleetwood home usually still carries its original 100-amp panel, and that ceiling shows fast once central air or a workshop joins the load. A 200-amp panel upgrade adds capacity and clears out a recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel in one visit.

Aluminum branch wiring is the other common thread. Warm switch plates and flickering fixtures point to loose connections, fixed with the right hardware at every joint. Two-prong outlets get a proper ground or GFCI protection.

Newer additions fit in too: a Level 2 EV charger on its own circuit, or a standby generator with an automatic transfer switch for the next outage.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Fleetwood

Fleetwood Borough issues electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, leaning on a third-party agency, like most municipalities here, to review plans and inspect finished work. We pull that permit under our own license, book the inspection and stand there when the inspector walks the job.

Met-Ed is the utility for most of Fleetwood. A panel upgrade or meter move means a disconnect and reconnect on their end, booked alongside the permit. Storm damage to the lines belongs to Met-Ed. Everything from the meter inward is ours, any hour you call.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Fleetwood Electrical FAQs

Is there a 24-hour electrician in Fleetwood?

Yes, every hour of every day, holidays included. The electrician who arrives lives in the area and drives a fully stocked TEE van from home. Call 610-777-7600 whenever the problem starts.

My Fleetwood house is from the 1960s. What should I expect?

Check the panel first. Many 1967 homes still run on 100 amps, sometimes on a recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, with aluminum branch wiring. A written quote covers the cost before we start.

The power is out on my street. Is that Met-Ed or you?

A whole-block outage is Met-Ed's line to fix. If only your house lost power, or breakers keep tripping while neighbors stay lit, the trouble is likely inside your panel, our side of the meter.

Does it matter that Kutztown runs its own electric system nearby?

Only if your address sits on that system, since Kutztown Borough Electric covers a limited area apart from Met-Ed and PPL. Tell us your utility when you call and we handle the rest.
