Houses change hands, and a 1949 house brings paperwork with it. Prospect Park Electrical FAQs
Usually not. Each outlet gets a ground if the box has one, or a GFCI device if it does not. Both satisfy code. We count the outlets, price the work per item in writing, and most of it fits in a single visit from a stocked van.
You can. A fuse box is legal, and a buyer may accept it. Many ask for a breaker panel instead. We quote the panel replacement in writing so you can decide whether to do it before listing or leave it for the buyer.
The panel, the grounding, the outlets, the visible wiring and any knob-and-tube remnants in the attic or basement. We test GFCI devices, check for double-tapped breakers and look for open splices. You get a written report and a written price for anything worth fixing.
Remove or replace, yes, when it still carries load. Knob-and-tube has no ground and should never sit under insulation. We trace the run, disconnect it and pull new cable to the same outlets and lights. Dead remnants can stay, but we confirm they are truly dead first.
