Electrical Service for Quakertown Homes

Quakertown is one of two boroughs in Bucks County with its own electric department. That changes the paperwork. A service upgrade inside the borough goes through Quakertown Borough Electric. Around the borough, PECO Energy Company is the county's main utility. Your bill tells you which one you have. We coordinate the meter side with whichever name is on it.

The typical Quakertown home dates to 1967. That means aluminum branch wiring, 100-amp panels and two-prong outlets are common here. Recalled Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels show up too. We treat those as a replacement, not a repair. A short safety inspection tells you what you have.

In September 2021 the remnants of Hurricane Ida brought flash flooding to Bucks County, with widespread outages and a tornado the same night. Storms like that are why Quakertown homeowners ask us about standby generators and surge protection. The same crews cover Spinnerstown and Perkasie. They answer 610-782-9000 whenever the lights go out on your side of the meter.

Common Electrical Projects in Quakertown Homes

Panel work leads the list. A 1967 Quakertown house often has a 100-amp panel with no spaces left. If the brand on the door is Federal Pacific or Zinsco, the panel itself is the hazard. We swap it for a modern 200-amp panel and coordinate the meter with the borough or PECO.

Aluminum branch wiring comes next. The fix is not always a rewire. Often we re-terminate every connection with rated connectors, then test each circuit. Two-prong outlets get a proper ground or GFCI protection while we are there.

Then the modern loads. A Level 2 EV charger needs its own circuit and room in the panel. A standby generator with a transfer switch keeps the sump pump and furnace running through a long outage. As a certified Generac dealer, we size, install and service them.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Quakertown

Quakertown Borough issues electrical permits under the state Uniform Construction Code. Like most Pennsylvania towns, it uses a third-party inspection agency to review and inspect the work. Homes with a Quakertown address in the surrounding townships go through their own township instead. Either way, we pull the permit, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector. The cost sits inside your written quote.

On the utility side, check your bill. If it comes from the borough, we book the disconnect and reconnect with Quakertown Borough Electric. If PECO Energy Company is your utility, we book it with PECO. Outages on the lines belong to the utility. Everything from the meter into the house belongs to us, at any hour.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Quakertown Electrical FAQs

Who handles a service upgrade in Quakertown, PECO or the borough?

It depends on who sends your electric bill. Quakertown Borough runs its own electric department, and homes inside the borough line usually get their power from it. Homes with a Quakertown address outside the line may be on PECO instead. We confirm yours on the first call and book the meter work with the right one.

My Quakertown house is from the 1960s. Is aluminum wiring a problem?

It can be. Aluminum wiring from that era expands and contracts with heat, so connections loosen at outlets and switches. Warm cover plates and flickering lights are the classic signs. We re-terminate the connections with rated connectors or replace the run, and we put both options in writing.

Do you take emergency calls in Quakertown on weekends?

Yes. Someone answers 610-782-9000 at every hour, every day of the year, holidays included. The electrician who comes out lives in the area and drives a stocked TEE van. Most repairs wrap up on that visit.

Can you install a whole-home generator in Quakertown?

Yes. Since the Ida outages in September 2021, standby generators have become a regular request across Bucks County. We are a certified Generac dealer. We size the unit, install the transfer switch, pull the borough permit and coordinate the utility side. Financing is available if you ask.
