The Thomas Edison difference

Your Electricians in Union County

Union County packs three electric utilities into a bit over three hundred square miles. PPL Electric Utilities serves the largest share. Citizens Electric Company serves its own territory, and Mifflinburg runs a borough-owned electric system. Thomas Edison Electric is a multigenerational, family-owned company. We work easily with all three, so you never have to learn the differences yourself.

Our licensed electricians serve Lewisburg, Mifflinburg, New Berlin, West Milton, Allenwood, Winfield, New Columbia and White Deer. We also cover the rest of the county. PA license PA075449, insured, and over 37,000 jobs completed since 2021. Ask for a written quote and you will have one before we begin.

Three utilities, no confusion

PPL, Citizens Electric or Mifflinburg Borough Electric, we know whose meter is on your wall and coordinate the upgrade accordingly.

Borough and township both

Lewisburg, Mifflinburg, New Berlin, Hartleton and the townships around Millmont and Laurelton all get the same licensed crew.

Mid 1970s wiring handled

Aluminum branch circuits and 100 amp panels are typical of the county's 1974 median home, and we correct and upgrade them routinely.

Landlord friendly

Written quotes, permits and inspection records for every job, which is what a rental property file needs.

Every hour of every day

24/7, 365 days a year, with the dispatch fee waived if we are late.

Licensed and rated

PA license PA075449, insured, and rated 4.8 stars on Google by homeowners across Union County.

Electrical Service Across Union County

Lewisburg, the county seat, is regular ground for our electricians. They are on our payroll, not a subcontractor's. Each one leaves from home in a stocked TEE van. We serve the full county and cross into Snyder, Northumberland, Lycoming, Clinton and Mifflin Counties as well. A home just over the line gets the same crew and the same terms.

The three-utility layout affects one thing: who we deal with when a job touches the meter. A service upgrade in PPL territory follows PPL's process. In Citizens Electric territory it follows theirs. Inside Mifflinburg borough, the borough electric department handles the disconnect and reconnect. We have done all three, and we make the calls. The utility owns the lines, the transformer and the meter. Our license covers everything on the house side.

Just under three quarters of Union County homes are owner-occupied. We also work for landlords and property managers who need repairs documented and done to code. Same written quote, same permits, same inspection. You might own a duplex in Lewisburg or a rental in West Milton. Either way, we can be your electrician too.

Common Electrical Projects in Union County Homes

A Union County home built around 1974, the county median, usually reaches us for one of two reasons. Something stopped working, or something new needs power. Both trace back to the same era.

On the repair side, aluminum branch wiring is the headline. Builders installed it widely in the mid 1970s, and its connections loosen over time. Warm switch plates and a burning smell near an outlet are common signs. So are lights that dim when the fridge kicks on. We correct it with approved copper connectors at each device. Two-prong ungrounded outlets are the second issue, and we replace them with grounded or GFCI-protected receptacles.

On the upgrade side, a 100 amp panel from 1974 runs out of room fast. A new electric range, a relocated dryer or a mini split each want a dedicated circuit. So does an EV charger. A range, dryer and AC outlet install often turns into a conversation about a 200 amp panel too. We have that conversation with numbers on paper.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Union County

Union County electrical permits fall under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code. Each borough and township runs the code its own way. Most of them contract with a third-party inspection agency instead of staffing a building department. The inspector who checks a panel in Lewisburg may not be the one in Mifflinburg or New Berlin. We file the permit through your municipality, meet the inspector, and hand you the approved paperwork.

The utility side is where Union County stands out. PPL Electric Utilities customers, Citizens Electric Company customers and Mifflinburg Borough Electric customers each have a different contact. Each handles a service disconnect, meter base approval and reconnect its own way. We work with whichever one applies to your address. Then we schedule the outage window so your power is off for as little time as possible. Outages on their lines are theirs to fix. Everything from the meter into your walls is ours.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Union County Electrical FAQs

I live in Mifflinburg. Does the borough electric change anything?

Only the coordination. Mifflinburg runs its own borough electric system. A service upgrade or meter change goes through the borough instead of PPL or Citizens Electric. Your permit still goes through the municipality, and the wiring still follows the same code. We still do the work and the paperwork. You will not notice a difference.

Can you handle electrical work for a rental property in Lewisburg?

Yes. We work for landlords and property managers across Union County. Each job comes with a written quote and a permit where the work needs one. You also get an inspection record you can keep on file. We can also do a safety inspection between tenants. That way you know what shape the panel and outlets are in before someone moves in.

Do you take night calls in Union County?

Yes. We answer 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The electrician who comes out lives in the region and leaves from home. Tell us what is happening and we will give you a realistic arrival window. If we blow past it, we waive the dispatch fee. We would rather you call us at midnight than wait out a tripping breaker until morning.

Should I fix aluminum wiring before selling a 1970s house?

It is worth knowing whether you have it, because a buyer's inspector will find it. Homes built around 1974, the Union County median, are prime candidates. The fix uses approved copper pigtails at each connection. That costs far less than a rewire, and it satisfies most inspection reports. We can assess it and quote the fix in writing.
