Electrical Service in Dillsburg

Dillsburg has newer housing than much of York County, with a median build year of 1983. Copper wiring is the norm here, so the usual problem is not old wiring, it is a maxed-out panel. A 100 to 150-amp panel runs out of room fast once a heat pump, hot tub or EV charger joins the load.

Met-Ed is the utility name on most Dillsburg bills, with PPL, PECO and Adams Electric Cooperative filling in the rest of York County. Our electricians already cover Franklintown and Wellsville as part of the same route. Call 717-274-2700 any time.

Common Electrical Projects in Dillsburg Homes

A Dillsburg house from 1983 rarely has the old-wiring problems seen in older boroughs. Copper wiring is standard, and most outlets are already grounded. The question instead is capacity.

A 100 to 150-amp panel was plenty in 1983. It is not always enough once a heat pump, a hot tub or a Level 2 EV charger joins the load. We run a load calculation and, where needed, a panel upgrade with room for what comes next, plus a generator transfer switch if you want one.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Dillsburg

Panel upgrades in Dillsburg are usually planned work, not emergencies, since the housing stock is newer than most of York County. Dillsburg Borough issues permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, typically through a third-party agency rather than its own building department. We file the permit and set the inspection date first.

Met-Ed handles service in Dillsburg, while PPL, PECO and Adams Electric Cooperative cover other stretches of York County. A capacity upgrade means a disconnect at the start and a reconnect once inspected, both scheduled by us.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Dillsburg Electrical FAQs

Can a 1983 Dillsburg house handle an EV charger?

Often, but not always. A 100 to 150-amp panel from that era has less spare room than expected once a heat pump or hot tub is already on it. We run a load calculation first.

Why would a newer Dillsburg home need an electrician at all?

Capacity, mostly. The wiring is usually sound copper, not the aluminum or knob-and-tube found in older York County boroughs. The common call is a panel running out of room, not a safety repair.

Do you install generators in Dillsburg?

Yes. We are a certified Generac dealer and install standby generators with an automatic transfer switch, sized to your panel, often alongside a panel upgrade.

Is there a 24-hour electrician for emergencies in Dillsburg?

Yes. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included, and the electrician on call lives in the area. Call 717-274-2700 for a real arrival window.
