Electrical Service Across Monroe County

Monroe County is split between two utilities. PPL Electric Utilities serves much of the county. Met-Ed, part of FirstEnergy, serves other areas, and both are present around Stroudsburg. That matters when we replace your service or meter base. We schedule the disconnect and reconnect with whichever one is yours. We make that call. Restoring lines after a storm is their job. Everything from the meter into the house is ours.

Housing here is newer than in most of the region. The typical Monroe County home dates to around 1984, which usually means copper wiring and a 100-amp to 150-amp panel. Two things to watch. Some panels from that period came from brands recalled since then, Federal Pacific and Zinsco among them. A 100-amp service was ample in 1984. It runs out of room fast once you add a heat pump, a hot tub or a car charger. We inspect the first and upgrade the second.

Common Electrical Projects in Monroe County Homes

A Monroe County home from the mid-1980s is usually in decent electrical shape. Builders designed it for a different load, though, and a few of its parts have not aged well. What we do most in Stroudsburg, Tannersville, Pocono Pines and the surrounding townships:

The municipality issues electrical permits in Monroe County under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code. Most townships and boroughs here contract with a third-party inspection agency rather than staffing their own building department. Each one has its own forms and timelines. A generator in East Stroudsburg and one in Brodheadsville go through different offices. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector on site. Your written quote includes it.
