Three providers keep the lights on in Perry County. PPL Electric Utilities serves much of it, Penelec serves other areas, and Duncannon runs its own borough electric system. Before we quote a service upgrade we ask which one bills you, because that is who we coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with. The provider is responsible for the lines, the poles and the meter. From the meter into the house, it is ours.
The typical Perry County home dates to around 1976. That puts it squarely in the years when builders used aluminum for branch circuits. Homes from that time also commonly have a 100-amp panel with no room left and two-prong outlets that were never grounded. On a property with a well pump, a barn or a detached garage, a 100-amp service fills up quickly. We see a lot of panels that were never meant to run what they run now.

Permits for electrical work in Perry County come from the municipality under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code. Most townships and boroughs here use a third-party inspection agency, each with its own process. So a panel upgrade in Marysville and a panel upgrade in Millerstown go through different offices. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector on site. It is part of the quoted price.
Then there is the utility. Perry County has three: PPL Electric Utilities, Penelec and Duncannon's borough electric system. A service upgrade or a new meter base requires a scheduled disconnect and reconnect with the right one, and we set that up. When lines go down or the whole road is dark, that is the utility's repair. Perry County Electrical FAQs
We tell you the dispatch fee up front when you call. The electrician arrives in a stocked TEE van, looks the job over, and puts the price in writing. Nothing starts until you approve it. If we are late for the window we gave you, we waive the dispatch fee.
Both, in different roles. Duncannon runs its own borough electric system. So we schedule the disconnect and reconnect at the meter with the borough rather than PPL or Penelec. Everything else, the new panel, the meter base, the permit and the inspection, is our work. You make one call, to us, and we coordinate.
Maybe not. A 100-amp panel from 1976 fit a smaller electrical life. Well pumps, heat pumps and shop equipment all pull hard. We run a load calculation before adding anything. If there is room, we add dedicated circuits. If not, we quote a 200-amp upgrade so you can decide with real numbers.
Look outside. If neighbors on your line are dark too, call your provider: PPL, Penelec or Duncannon borough. When only your house is out, check the main breaker. If it will not reset, or it trips again, stop and call us. A breaker that refuses to hold is protecting you from something, and we will find it.
