What Easton's Older Homes Need

Easton's population runs about 29,739, and the typical house here dates to 1938. That means knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes, 60-amp services and ungrounded outlets are still common finds behind the walls. A fuse box alone limits what a kitchen or laundry room can run at once, and old cloth-wrapped wiring loses its insulation over the decades.

None of that is unusual for a city this age, and it's exactly the work our electricians handle daily. A full rewire isn't always necessary. Often the fix is a new panel, a handful of dedicated circuits, and grounding wherever two-prong outlets remain. We also install EV charger circuits and standby generators for homeowners planning ahead, and as a certified Generac dealer we service what we install.

Our electricians cover the surrounding boroughs too, from Tatamy, 4.1 miles off, to Nazareth, 5.9 miles the other way, in the same stocked vans they drive in Easton.

Common Electrical Projects in Easton Homes

A 1938 home in Easton usually needs one of three things first: a modern panel, safer wiring, or both. Fuse boxes still turn up often, and they can't be repaired, only replaced with a breaker panel sized for how the house is used today.

  • Panel upgrades. A 60-amp fuse box becomes a 100 or 200-amp breaker panel. See circuit breaker repair and upgrades.

  • Knob-and-tube removal. Where the old cloth wiring is still live, we replace it section by section.

  • Grounding and GFCI. Two-prong outlets near sinks and outdoors get real ground protection.

  • New capacity. EV chargers and generators both need power the original 1938 service never planned for.

Every estimate is in writing before the crew starts, whether the job is one outlet or the whole house.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Easton

Easton issues its own electrical permits under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code, typically through a third-party inspection agency rather than a city-run building department. We handle the paperwork, book the inspector, and stand there when they walk the job. None of that changes your price once the quote is signed.

PPL Electric Utilities delivers power to Easton. When a job means a new meter base or a heavier service, PPL has to disconnect and reconnect at their end, and we schedule that call. Storm damage to the lines outside is PPL's repair. From the meter inward, every wire, breaker and outlet is ours, any hour you need us.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Easton Electrical FAQs

Is a 60-amp fuse box in an Easton home dangerous?

Not automatically, but it limits you. A 60-amp service struggles once a modern kitchen, central air and a couple of space heaters run together, and fuse boxes can't be expanded the way a breaker panel can. We test the load first, then quote a 100 or 200-amp upgrade if the house needs the room.

Do you handle knob-and-tube wiring removal in Easton?

Yes. It shows up often in a city built around 1938, usually mixed with newer wiring from later renovations. We trace what's still live, replace it, and leave the rest documented so the next electrician who opens a wall knows what they're looking at.

How does a PPL outage differ from something I should call you for?

If the block is dark, that's PPL's outage to fix. If your neighbors have power and you don't, or only part of your house lost it, the trouble is usually inside your panel or wiring. That side of the meter is ours, day or night, at 610-782-9000.

Can my Easton home get a generator or EV charger installed?

Almost always, once we check the panel. A 1938 service was never sized for either. We run a load calculation, and if the existing panel is short on room, we upgrade it alongside the new circuit so both are done in one visit.
