The Thomas Edison difference

Your Electricians in Northampton County

Thomas Edison Electric's Northampton County electricians are our own people. They live and work around the county. Each one starts from home in a stocked TEE van. We serve the whole county. That means Easton, Nazareth, Hellertown, Bath and Northampton borough. It also means Wind Gap, Pen Argyl, Bangor, Walnutport and Danielsville.

We are a multigenerational, family-owned company, licensed in Pennsylvania (PA075449), insured and rated 4.8 stars on Google. Here, the work tends to revolve around houses from the early 1970s and a county split between two electric utilities. We have handled both for a long time. We put every price in writing before we touch the first wire.

Neighbors, not subcontractors

The crews who cover Easton, Nazareth and Bangor work for us and start each day from their own homes.

PPL and Met-Ed both covered

The county is split between two utilities. We coordinate the service disconnect and reconnect with whichever one serves your address.

Aluminum wiring specialists

Northampton County's typical home is from 1971, peak aluminum branch-wiring years. We inspect, repair with approved connectors, or rewire.

Panels that have room

A 100-amp panel from the early 1970s cannot carry a heat pump and a car charger. We upgrade to 200 amps and document it.

Around the clock, holidays included

A dead panel in Nazareth at midnight or a burning smell in Bangor on Christmas gets a licensed electrician on the phone.

Straight pricing, real credentials

Written quotes before work. PA license PA075449, insured, 37,000-plus jobs completed since 2021.

Electrical Service Across Northampton County

PPL Electric Utilities and Met-Ed, the FirstEnergy company, divide Northampton County between them. Which one you have depends on your address. That determines who we coordinate with when you upgrade your service or replace your meter base. Both utilities need a scheduled disconnect and reconnect for that work, and we arrange it. Downed lines, outages and the drop to the meter are the utility's. The panel, the circuits and everything inside the walls are ours.

The typical Northampton County home dates to 1971. If you own one, there is a fair chance it has aluminum branch-circuit wiring. It may also have a 100-amp panel with every slot used. Ungrounded two-prong outlets in the bedrooms are common too. Warm switch plates and dimming lights when the dryer starts are common symptoms. So is a breaker that trips when you run the microwave and the toaster together. The cures are well established and we quote them in writing.

We also handle plenty of forward-looking work here. That includes EV charger circuits, panel capacity for heat pumps, whole-home surge protection and standby generators. We serve the neighboring counties as well: Lehigh, Carbon, Monroe and Bucks.

Common Electrical Projects in Northampton County Homes

A 1971 house in Nazareth, Bath or Hellertown has good bones and a few electrical habits that need breaking. The projects we handle most across Northampton County:

  • Aluminum branch-circuit repair. We inspect every outlet, switch and junction. We correct terminations with approved connectors, or rewire where the condition calls for it. Either way, we tell you which in writing.

  • 200-amp service upgrades with a new meter base, coordinated with PPL or Met-Ed. Start at circuit breaker repair and upgrades.

  • Grounding two-prong outlets and adding GFCI protection in kitchens, baths, garages and outdoors.

  • EV charger installation on a dedicated circuit, with a panel load calculation first so nothing trips.

  • Dedicated circuits for ranges, dryers, mini-splits and workshops. See range, dryer and AC outlets.

  • Code violation corrections flagged in a home inspection. See electrical code violations.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Northampton County

The municipality issues electrical permits in Northampton County under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. Most townships and boroughs use a third-party inspection agency instead of running their own. So the paperwork in Easton is not the paperwork in Pen Argyl or Walnutport. We file, we schedule the inspection, and we are on site when the inspector comes. Your quote includes it.

Utility coordination is the other step. PPL Electric Utilities and Met-Ed split Northampton County. A service upgrade or meter base replacement requires a disconnect and reconnect scheduled with your utility. We make that call. As always, the dividing line is the meter. Outages, downed wires and the service drop belong to the utility. The meter socket, panel and everything inside belong to us. If it is inside the house and it worries you, call us, day or night.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Northampton County Electrical FAQs

How do I know whether I have PPL or Met-Ed?

Look at your electric bill. Both utilities serve Northampton County, and neighboring towns can be on different ones. It does not change the work we do inside your house. It does change who we call for a service disconnect and reconnect. Tell us when you call and we will schedule it with the right company.

Should I worry about aluminum wiring in my 1971 Easton house?

Take it seriously but do not panic. Aluminum branch wiring from that era is common in Northampton County. The trouble sits at the connections, which loosen and heat up. Signs include warm cover plates, flickering and a faint plastic smell. We inspect, repair with approved connectors or rewire, and price it in writing.

Can my panel handle an EV charger?

Sometimes. A Level 2 charger draws a lot of power. A 100-amp panel from the early 1970s often has little room left. We run a load calculation first. If there is room, we add the dedicated circuit. If not, we quote a 200-amp upgrade alongside it so you see both numbers together.

Are the electricians you send to Northampton County local?

Yes. They live and work around the county. They leave from their own homes in stocked TEE vans. We answer the phone 24/7, 365 days a year, and dispatch for emergencies at any hour. Scheduled work gets a confirmed arrival window, and if we are late, we waive the dispatch fee. That is the promise, and we keep it.
