Northampton County is divided between PPL Electric Utilities and Met-Ed, the FirstEnergy company. Which one you have depends on your address, and it determines who we coordinate with when your service is upgraded or your meter base replaced. Both utilities need a scheduled disconnect and reconnect for that work, and we arrange it. Downed lines, outages and the drop to the meter are the utility's. The panel, the circuits and everything inside the walls are ours.
The typical Northampton County home dates to 1971. If you own one, there is a fair chance it has aluminum branch-circuit wiring, a 100-amp panel with every slot used, and ungrounded two-prong outlets in the bedrooms. Warm switch plates, dimming lights when the dryer starts, and a breaker that trips every time you run the microwave and the toaster together are the symptoms.
