The Thomas Edison difference

Your Bangor Electricians

Bangor electricians from Thomas Edison Electric cover the borough around the clock. Bangor, ZIP 18013, is home to about 5,163 people in Northampton County, 1.5 miles from Flicksville and 1.9 from Ackermanville.

Subcontracting is not how we work. Each electrician is a direct employee, based nearby, van stocked before the first call comes in. We are family-owned, licensed in Pennsylvania under PA075449 and insured. Call 610-782-9000 anytime.

Older than the county average

Bangor's homes date to the late 1930s. Fuse boxes and knob-and-tube remnants are common calls here.

60-amp to 200-amp upgrades

Electrical Service in and Around Bangor

Bangor's housing stock runs older than the Northampton County average. The typical home dates to the late 1930s, old enough that fuse boxes, knob-and-tube remnants, 60-amp services and ungrounded outlets still turn up regularly on our service calls.

We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, with a written quote before work starts. The same crews who cover Bangor also serve Ackermanville, Pen Argyl and the rest of Northampton County.

PPL Electric Utilities and Met-Ed both serve parts of Northampton County. Whichever one bills your address, we coordinate the meter work directly so a service upgrade stays on one schedule.

Common Electrical Projects in Bangor Homes

A Bangor house from the late 1930s usually needs a specific handful of things addressed:

  • Fuse box replacement. We swap an outdated fuse box for a modern breaker panel sized for today's loads.

  • 60-amp to 200-amp upgrades. Needed before adding central air, a heat pump or an EV charger.

  • Knob-and-tube remnants. Old wiring behind removed fixtures needs to come out or be safely isolated.

  • Grounding. Two-prong outlets get a real ground or GFCI protection, especially in kitchens and baths.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Bangor

Bangor Borough issues electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, using a third-party inspection agency rather than running its own building department, typical across Northampton County. We file the permit, schedule the inspection and are on site when the inspector arrives.

PPL Electric Utilities and Met-Ed both serve Northampton County. A panel or service upgrade needs a disconnect and reconnect at the meter, scheduled with whichever utility bills you. Storm damage to the lines is the utility's repair. Everything from the meter into the house is ours.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Bangor Electrical FAQs

Is my Bangor home likely to still have knob-and-tube wiring?

It is possible in a house from the late 1930s that was never rewired. Knob-and-tube itself is not automatically dangerous, but remnants spliced into newer circuits are a real risk. An inspection settles it in one visit.

How do I know if I have PPL or Met-Ed?

Check your electric bill. Both utilities serve Northampton County, and Bangor can be served by either depending on the address. It does not change the work inside your house, only who we call for a service disconnect and reconnect.

Do you answer emergency calls in Bangor at night?

Yes. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included. Our electricians live around Northampton County and dispatch from home in stocked vans, ready to finish the job that same visit.

Can an older Bangor panel handle an EV charger?

Often not without an upgrade first. A 60-amp fuse box rarely has room for a Level 2 charger's dedicated circuit. We run a load calculation, then quote a 200-amp upgrade in writing if needed.
