The Thomas Edison difference
Portland electricians at Thomas Edison Electric cover one of the smaller boroughs in Northampton County, about 546 people, tucked next to Mount Bethel, 1.5 miles off.
Our electricians are direct employees, never subcontractors, dispatching from their own homes in fully stocked TEE vans. We hold PA license PA075449, carry insurance, and answer 610-782-9000 any hour, any day. Every job starts with a written price.
1938-era fuse boxes and knob-and-tube wiring are work we know well.
Every van is driven by a Thomas Edison Electric employee.
Sizing, installing and servicing your standby generator, start to finish.
We book the meter disconnect and reconnect as part of the job.
610-782-9000 reaches a licensed electrician any time.
Financing available for larger projects.
We're dedicated to building lasting relationships with every client through exceptional service and guaranteed results.

Small as it is, Portland's housing stock dates back just as far as its bigger neighbors, to around 1938, with the same fuse boxes, knob-and-tube segments, 60-amp panels and two-prong, ungrounded outlets that come with the era.
Panels here usually move from fuses to breakers in one visit, with old cloth wiring traced and replaced along the way and grounding added wherever it's missing. A number of Portland homeowners also ask about a standby generator, and being a certified Generac dealer means we install and maintain the one we sell you. Bangor sits 7.0 miles off, Flicksville 7.7.
As a borough, Portland issues its own electrical permits, though like most Pennsylvania municipalities it relies on a third-party agency for the actual plan review and inspection rather than running that department itself. Filing the application, booking the inspector and being there when they show up are all part of what we do.
PPL Electric Utilities is Portland's utility. We coordinate directly with PPL whenever a job calls for a disconnect and reconnect, such as a new meter base or a bigger service. Downed lines and outages are PPL's job to fix. Inside the house, from the meter forward, that work is ours.
Our Pennsylvania and New Jersey experts are ready to resolve your electrical woes.

Mike from Thomas Edison Electric replaced our out-of-service-life whole-house surge protectors and repaired a lighting fixture for our deck. He did an excellent professional job. He didn't try to sell us things we didn't need. I highly recommend Mike.
