Electrical Service in and Around Lebanon

The typical Lebanon home dates to 1947. Houses from that era commonly still have knob-and-tube remnants, fuse boxes, 60-amp services and ungrounded outlets somewhere in the system. We check the panel and the wiring type first, on every visit.

Our electricians are directly employed by Thomas Edison Electric, never subcontracted, and they dispatch from their own homes rather than one central lot. The same crews cover Quentin, Rexmont, Cornwall, Annville, Jonestown and Myerstown, all part of one Lebanon County territory. Call 717-274-2700 any hour, any day.

PPL Electric Utilities is the electric utility here. PPL restores the lines and maintains the meter; what happens behind the meter, inside the house, is our job. A service upgrade or panel swap needs a scheduled disconnect and reconnect with PPL, and we handle that booking directly.

Common Electrical Projects in Lebanon Homes

Start with the panel. A 1947 house in Lebanon often still runs on 60 or 100 amps, sometimes still on fuses. If the wiring includes knob-and-tube remnants, that gets traced and corrected before anything else goes in. A 200-amp panel upgrade is the usual fix, sized for the house as it's actually used today.

Next, the outlets. Two-prong, ungrounded receptacles are common in Lebanon's older rowhomes, and we replace them with grounded outlets or GFCI protection depending on the location.

Then the additions a 1947 house never planned for. A Level 2 EV charger gets its own circuit. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch covers the next long outage, and as a certified Generac dealer, we install and service those too.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Lebanon

The City of Lebanon issues electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, the same as every municipality in the state. Like most of Lebanon County, it relies on a third-party inspection agency rather than staffing a full building department. We pull the permit, book the inspection and walk the inspector through the job, all included in the written quote you approve first.

PPL Electric Utilities serves Lebanon. A service upgrade, meter move or panel swap needs a scheduled disconnect and reconnect at the meter, and we book that with PPL directly. Storm damage to the lines is PPL's repair. Everything behind the meter is ours, at any hour.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Lebanon Electrical FAQs

Is there a 24-hour emergency electrician in Lebanon?

Yes. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included, and our electricians are local to Lebanon, dispatching from home instead of a distant yard. They drive fully stocked TEE vans, so most repairs finish in one visit. Call 717-274-2700 whenever the problem shows up, day or night.

My Lebanon rowhome still has a fuse box. What should I expect?

Common for a 1947 home. We'll check whether the service is 60 or 100 amps and whether any knob-and-tube wiring remains. Most of the time, the fix is a full panel upgrade to 200 amps, priced in writing before we start, so you know the cost up front.

The power is out in Lebanon. Do I call you or PPL?

Check outside first. If the whole block is dark, that's a PPL outage, and PPL restores the lines. If only your house lost power, or part of it, the trouble is probably on your side of the meter. That side is ours, any hour you call.

What should I have inspected before buying an older Lebanon home?

The panel and the wiring, mainly. A fuse box, a 60-amp service, or knob-and-tube remnants are all common finds in a 1947-era house. Our electrical safety inspection covers all three and gives you a written list of what's fine and what needs correcting.
