“ Joan was very knowledgable and efficient at doing his job. He answered any questions that we had and stayed later in the day until the task was completed.

The Thomas Edison difference

Your Electricians in Juniata County

Thomas Edison Electric's Juniata County electricians know small towns. Juniata County has a population of roughly twenty-three thousand. It's spread across small towns: Mifflintown, the county seat, along with Port Royal, Thompsontown, Mifflin, McAlisterville, Richfield and East Waterford. There is no big city here, and we like that kind of work. That means older farmhouses, ranch homes from the 1970s, detached shops and long service runs.

We are a family-owned company that has completed over 37,000 jobs since 2021. We are licensed in Pennsylvania under PA075449 and insured. Each job in Juniata County gets a written quote first, and our phone answers 24/7, 365 days a year.

Electrical Service Across Juniata County

Juniata County is split three ways for electric service. PPL Electric Utilities is the primary utility. Met-Ed / Penelec serves other parts of the county. And Valley Rural Electric Cooperative serves parts of it as well. That matters when you upgrade a service or replace a meter base, because each one has its own procedure. We figure out who serves you before we quote and coordinate the disconnect and reconnect ourselves.

Our Juniata County electricians are on our own payroll, never subcontractors. They start each day from their own homes around the area. Each one drives a fully stocked TEE van, so the parts come along. If we are late for the window we gave you, we waive the dispatch fee.

Our coverage runs the length of the county, from Thompsontown, Mexico and Mifflintown to Port Royal and Mifflin. It reaches out to Honey Grove and East Waterford, and up to Richfield, McAlisterville, Oakland Mills and Cocolamus. We also cover the counties on every side: Perry, Mifflin, Huntingdon, Franklin, Dauphin, Snyder and Northumberland.

Common Electrical Projects in Juniata County Homes

The median home in Juniata County dates to 1973. Builders wired much of the housing stock in the aluminum era, with 100-amp panels and ungrounded two-prong outlets. Add fifty years of appliances and maybe a welder in the shop. The original service now works harder than its builders planned.

These are typical calls from McAlisterville, Port Royal and Mifflintown.

If nobody has looked inside the panel in a long time, a safety inspection is the right first move.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Juniata County

Like the rest of Pennsylvania, Juniata County issues electrical permits at the municipal level under the Uniform Construction Code. Most of the county's townships and boroughs contract plan review and inspections to a third-party agency. So the routine in Mifflintown may differ from the routine in Port Royal or Thompsontown. We keep track of that. Pulling the permit and scheduling the inspection are part of each job, and the cost is in the written quote.

Then there is the utility question, which in Juniata County is a real question. PPL Electric Utilities, Met-Ed / Penelec and Valley Rural Electric Cooperative all serve parts of the county. A service upgrade, a meter base replacement or a temporary disconnect means arranging things with whoever serves your house. Their requirements differ. We handle that. A downed line along the whole road means the utility is your first call. If only your house has the problem, we are your call.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Juniata County Electrical FAQs

How do I know whether PPL, Penelec or Valley REC serves my home?

Look at your electric bill. The utility named there is the one that owns the lines and the meter at your address. Juniata County splits among all three, and that changes how we schedule a service upgrade. Tell us which one you have when you call, or we can find out for you.

Is Juniata County within your service area for emergencies?

Yes. Our 24/7 line covers Juniata County every day of the year, and we dispatch for real emergencies. Burning smells, a dead panel and sparking outlets all qualify. The electrician who responds works for us directly and heads out from home in a stocked van. We also serve the neighboring counties, including Perry, Mifflin, Snyder and Dauphin.

My Thompsontown home has a 100-amp panel. Is that enough?

For a house from 1973 with the original loads, 100 amps was fine. Add central air or a heat pump, an electric range, a dryer and a shop, and it gets tight. We check the panel and add up your actual loads. Then we tell you in writing whether an upgrade to 200 amps makes sense.

Can you add a subpanel to a detached shop or barn?

Yes. A feeder from the house to an outbuilding with its own subpanel is a straightforward project. We do them across Juniata County. We size the feeder for the equipment you run and install proper grounding at the building. Then we pull the permit and get the work inspected.
