The Thomas Edison difference

Your Electricians in Lycoming County

Thomas Edison Electric's Lycoming County electricians cover a lot of ground. Williamsport and Montoursville sit in the center, Muncy and Hughesville to one side, Jersey Shore to the other, and Trout Run, Cogan Station and Ralston stretch up the valleys. Five different electric providers cover that ground, which takes some sorting out. We work with all of them.

Thomas Edison Electric is a family-owned company, and our team has completed more than 37,000 jobs since 2021. The electricians who cover Lycoming County are our own people. They live and work around the area. They leave from their own homes in stocked vans. We are licensed and insured, and we give you a written quote before we start. We also waive the dispatch fee if we show up late.

Five providers, no confusion

PPL, Penelec, Claverack, Tri-County or Sullivan County REC, we find out which one you have and handle the coordination for meter and service work.

1963-era know-how

Lycoming County's typical home is from the early 1960s, and we come prepared for small panels, two-prong outlets and aluminum wiring.

Scheduled, not squeezed in

Your Lycoming County electrician keeps a stocked van at home. We confirm a window for Williamsport or Muncy and keep it. Late means no dispatch fee.

24/7 for real emergencies

A burning smell from the panel in Montoursville at 2 a.m. gets a licensed electrician on the phone and on the road, holidays included.

Quotes in writing

Before we touch a wire in Muncy or Hughesville, you get the price on paper. No add-ons, no surprises when the invoice comes.

Licensed and accountable

PA license PA075449, insured, and rated 4.8 stars on Google by homeowners across the region.

Electrical Service Across Lycoming County

PPL Electric Utilities serves most of Lycoming County, with Penelec, part of FirstEnergy, covering some areas. Beyond those two, three rural cooperatives have members here: Claverack, Tri-County and Sullivan County Rural Electric. If you live outside Williamsport, there is a real chance your power comes from a co-op. That changes how we schedule a service upgrade. We coordinate the disconnect, meter work and reconnect with whichever provider bills you. Lines and poles are theirs; the meter socket, panel and every wire inside the house are ours.

Housing here is mid-century. The typical Lycoming County home dates to around 1963. That puts it right in the 60-amp and 100-amp era, often with ungrounded outlets. Houses from the years just after often have aluminum branch wiring too. We size upgrades for how you actually live now, not how the original owner did.

Our crews start from home, so Lycoming County gets the same scheduling as anywhere else we work. We also cover the neighboring counties, including Clinton, Union, Northumberland, Montour, Columbia, Sullivan, Bradford, Tioga and Potter.

Common Electrical Projects in Lycoming County Homes

Most Lycoming County homes date to a time when a 60-amp fuse panel or a small 100-amp breaker box was plenty. Sixty years on, those same houses are running heat pumps, hot tubs and electric ranges. The projects we see most:

  • Panel and service upgrades to 200 amps, coordinated with PPL, Penelec or your co-op. Start at circuit breaker repair and upgrades.

  • Ungrounded outlet corrections. Two-prong receptacles were standard around 1963. We ground them or protect them with GFCI the way the code allows.

  • Aluminum branch wiring repairs in homes from the late 1960s into the 1970s, where loose aluminum connections cause heat and flicker.

  • Backup generators. If you are on a co-op line outside town, a standby generator with a transfer switch keeps the well pump and furnace running when the grid does not.

  • Range, dryer and AC outlets on proper dedicated circuits. See range, dryer and AC outlets.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Lycoming County

Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code governs electrical permits. In Lycoming County the municipality handles them, usually by contracting a third-party inspection agency rather than staffing its own building department. The process in Williamsport is not necessarily the process in Jersey Shore or Picture Rocks. We file the permit, arrange the inspection and stay until it passes. It is part of the job, not an extra.

Then there is the utility side. With five providers, including PPL Electric Utilities, the first thing we ask is who sends your electric bill. Each of them has its own procedure for a service disconnect and reconnect, and the co-ops in particular like to hear from us early. We make those calls and set the date. Remember the dividing line: the power company owns the drop and the meter. You own everything past it, and that is the part we repair, upgrade and inspect.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Lycoming County Electrical FAQs

Are your electricians local to Lycoming County?

Yes. Our Lycoming County electricians are our own staff, not subcontractors. Their day starts at home. A stocked van comes with each of them, whether the call is in Williamsport or up the valleys. You get a confirmed window, and if we miss it, we waive the dispatch fee. We still answer emergency calls around the clock.

I am on a rural electric cooperative. Can you still do my service upgrade?

Yes. Claverack, Tri-County and Sullivan County Rural Electric all have members in Lycoming County. We coordinate meter pulls and reconnects with them the same way we do with PPL or Penelec. Tell us which co-op you belong to when you call and we will handle the rest, permit included.

Is aluminum wiring in a 1960s Lycoming County home dangerous?

It can be, mainly at the connections. Aluminum expands and loosens over time, which leads to heat at outlets and switches. We can inspect what you have and tighten or treat connections with approved connectors. Then we tell you in writing whether a full replacement makes sense or a targeted repair is enough.

Do you offer financing for a big job like a rewire?

We do. Ask about flexible payment options when you request your quote. A 200-amp service upgrade or a partial rewire in an older Montoursville or Muncy house is a meaningful investment. We would rather you get the work done safely than put it off. Every job still comes with a written quote first.
