The Thomas Edison difference

Coplay Electricians, Not Subcontracted

When you call a Coplay electrician, Thomas Edison Electric sends an employee, not a subcontractor picked up for the day. This ZIP 18037 borough of about 3,466 people sits in Lehigh County, next to Whitehall at 0.9 miles and Catasauqua at 1.5, with Laurys Station 4.1 out.

Pennsylvania license PA075449 and full insurance back every visit, along with over 37,000 jobs completed since 2021. Each van is fully stocked and leaves from the electrician's own home. The price comes in writing first, and we waive the dispatch fee if we run late. Call 610-782-9000 any hour, 24/7.

Electrical Calls We Get in Coplay

Coplay's typical home was built in 1956, old enough that fuse boxes, 60-amp services and knob-and-tube remnants still show up in the walls. A flickering light or a breaker that will not reset is often the first sign.

We handle both ends of the job: the panel itself, through a circuit breaker upgrade, and the smaller fixes, a ceiling fan that has quit or an outlet that needs grounding. A safety inspection up front tells you which one you actually need.

Common Electrical Projects in Coplay Homes

Coplay's median build year is 1956, which puts fuse boxes, 60-amp services and knob-and-tube remnants near the top of what we find on a typical visit. None of it is unusual work for us.

  • Safety inspections to see what a fuse box or a 60-amp service is actually still carrying.

  • Panel upgrades to bring an old fuse box up to modern breaker service.

  • Ceiling and attic fan installs, since older boxes often are not fan-rated.

  • Grounding outlets and adding GFCI protection near kitchens and bathrooms.

We start with whichever of these matches the actual complaint, not a blanket recommendation.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Coplay

Coplay Borough issues electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, and it relies on a third-party agency for plan review and inspection, the setup most Lehigh County boroughs use. We manage that filing and scheduling as part of the job, start to finish.

PPL Electric Utilities serves Coplay. A panel upgrade or new meter base needs PPL to disconnect and reconnect at the meter, and we set that appointment. A street-wide outage is PPL's to repair. Everything past the meter is ours, any hour you call.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Coplay Electrical FAQs

Do old fuse boxes in Coplay need to be replaced?

Not always immediately, but most insurance carriers and future buyers expect breaker service. We inspect the fuse box first and tell you honestly whether repair or a full panel upgrade makes more sense.

Can you install a ceiling fan in an older Coplay home?

Usually, though the box often needs to be swapped for a fan-rated one first. That is part of the installation, quoted in writing along with the fan mounting itself.

Are Coplay electricians available for emergencies at night?

Yes, 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included. The electrician who responds is our own employee, dispatched from home in a fully stocked van. Call 610-782-9000 whenever the problem shows up.

Who pulls the permit for panel work in Coplay?

We do. The borough issues it under the Uniform Construction Code, and a third-party agency, standard across Lehigh County, handles inspection. We file it and schedule the inspector so you do not have to.
