Electrical Service Across Whitehall Township

The median Whitehall home dates to 1967, which places most of the township squarely in the aluminum-wiring era. Aluminum branch circuits, 100-amp panels and two-prong outlets are common finds, and a recalled Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel turns up often enough that we check for one on almost every service call.

Our electricians are directly employed by Thomas Edison Electric, not subcontracted, and dispatch from their own homes across Lehigh County rather than a single distant yard. That keeps the same crew familiar with Whitehall, Coplay and Catasauqua, call after call. Reach us at 610-782-9000 any hour.

Whitehall's size means the work varies more than in a smaller town: rental properties, larger single-family homes, and everything from a dead outlet to a full panel replacement, each quoted in writing.

Common Electrical Projects in Whitehall Homes

Start with the panel. A Whitehall house from 1967 often still runs on 100 amps, and if the label reads Federal Pacific or Zinsco, replacement comes before anything else. A 200-amp panel upgrade retires the recalled unit and adds the room a modern household actually needs.

Next comes the wiring itself. Warm cover plates, flickering lights and outlets that just stop working are the usual signs of aluminum connections working loose. We remake those joints with the right connectors, or run new copper where that's the better fix. Two-prong outlets get a real ground or GFCI protection, whichever the circuit calls for.

Then there's what a 1967 house never planned for. A Level 2 EV charger needs its own circuit and, often, more panel capacity than the original service provides. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch covers the next outage, and as a certified Generac dealer we install and maintain those too. Dedicated circuits for a home office or workshop round out the list.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Whitehall

Whitehall Township issues its own electrical permits under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code. Like most municipalities in Lehigh County, it typically relies on a third-party inspection agency rather than staffing a full building department of its own. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and walk the inspector through the finished work, all as part of the job.

PPL Electric Utilities serves Whitehall, with Met-Ed covering other areas of the county. A service upgrade, meter move or panel swap involves a scheduled disconnect and reconnect, and we arrange that directly with PPL. Storm damage to the lines themselves is PPL's to repair. Everything from the meter into the house, any hour of the day, is ours.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Whitehall Electrical FAQs

Is there an emergency electrician in Whitehall at night?

Yes. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, holidays included, and our electricians live around Lehigh County, dispatching from home instead of a distant yard. They arrive with a stocked TEE van, ready to finish most repairs on the first visit. Call 610-782-9000 whenever the problem shows up.

Can a 1967 Whitehall house handle an EV charger?

Usually, once we check the panel. A Level 2 charger needs its own circuit, and a 100-amp panel from 1967 often doesn't have room once you add central air. If the panel is full or carries a recalled brand, we quote a 200-amp upgrade and coordinate the meter work with PPL.

The power is out in Whitehall. Do I call you or PPL?

Check outside first. If the surrounding blocks are dark too, that's a PPL outage. If only your house lost power, the issue is more likely on your side of the meter, which is what our 24/7 line is for.

What should I check before buying an older home in Whitehall?

The panel brand and the branch wiring, first. A Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel is a replacement, not a repair, and aluminum wiring needs every connection checked for heat damage. Our electrical safety inspection covers all of it, with a written quote for anything that needs fixing.
